Modern: Korg Oasys. Sure the Kronos is technically better, but the Oasys has more of a presence and looks/feels 1000% superior.
Retro: Sequential Circuits Pro 1. Had one briefly in the late 80's, and nothing I've seen or heard since has that much character.
I had a Pro 1 back in the early 80's - used it for so many great bass lines along with my Roland MC 202. Awesome sounds.Retro: Sequential Circuits Pro 1. Had one briefly in the late 80's, and nothing I've seen or heard since has that much character.
I had an Octave Cat in the late 70's too

I can remember these being reviewed in the music mags of the day. Think this is the first time I've ever seen one in colour!Seeker UK said:

I have one of them - an awesome bit of kit that you can squeeze some bloody good sounds out of.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roland-JD-800-synth-/291...

It's a bit of a sore point for me at the moment as I've just listed a load of kit for sale (house purchase potentially on the cards) so I'm parting with some of my dream synths - Alesis Andromeda, Ensoniq Fizmo, Waldorf Q and XTk, MKS70 and programmer, Kurzweil K26000XS and a Radical Spectralis amongst other things (including a spares/repairs JD800 as it goes - excellent machines and I'll definitely have another one day). These are things I've lusted for over the years, added to the collection, then not had chance to use, so may as well let them go to a better home where they'll see more use.
I guess it also means the stuff I'm keeping is my 'actual' list of dream synths, as they've made the cut - Oberheim Xpander, Roland SH1, 3, 3a and 5, Nord Lead 2, Waldorf Pulse (so good I sold my Mini Moog) plus a JV2080 and TR-Rack for bread an butter stuff.
I love the old analogue stuff, I'd love a Matrix 12 (prices seem to have lagged behind the likes of the JP8), and my mate has a Synthex which was a total dog on purchase, but is now fettled and recased and it oozes quality, sounds incredible. The Waldorf Wave was always on my drool list, but wouldn't pay the asking prices now, though when finances allow I'll be on the lookout for a Q+ with the analogue filters, and maybe another XTk. I'm getting into the DIY scene with preamps, EQs and compressors, and I built a Shruthi 1 last year, that's a really cool piece - so would love to do some more DIY synth builds as well.
Other bits of kit I want to try are the Studio Electronics Omega synths and probably at the top of the list is the JoMox Sunsyn, but finding one is difficult.
I feel like we're in a bit of a golden age for analogue - new analogues and modulars are popping up all over the place, so looking forward to restocking the studio once we've sorted out houses!

That's a hell of a kit list Fiz!
I had a Pulse too but I'd pour powdered glass down my jap's before I took one over a Mini. I never got on with the matrix programming so sold it on.
BTW I'm looking for a small cheap module with a serviceable piano sound in it for gigging, so if anyone has something suitable going spare feel free to message me

From one synth-based username to another, cheers!
I know the enormous majority of people would agree with you on the Mini/Pulse thing. I just found the Pulse can cover a lot of the Mini's territory and do such a whole lot more, for £250, that I couldn't really justify having £1,200 tied up in the Mini. Obviously history has the last laugh, as the Pulse is worth roughly similar today and the Mini has gone stratospheric... I'm glad I had a year or two of Mini ownership, it was a lovely thing to interact with, but I don't think I'd have another. Maybe a Voyager one day...

And Moog are re-releasing a few modular systems, only those with very deep pockets need apply!
