I know it caused some arguments on here, but next Sunday to see Queen + Adam Lambert at the o2. Later on in May to the Albert Hall to see Eric Clapton.

I hope to be playing at gig or two myself if the band I'm in can get up to a better standard and we can find a reliable singer...

Apologies for my predictability but surely it's Queen - Freddie Mercury + some unknown? Have to say I saw 'Queen' on Xmas TV and thought they were dire. Sometimes bands work with a new singer (VH Sammy Hagar, maybe ACDC) sometimes they don't (Queen, The Stranglers).

Anyway, Slipknot in two weeks in the Birmingham Arena. Been wanting to see them for years and now I have my chance.

Yellow Mandarin
Gobste
Evil Weasel
Susan Boyle

OK, I made 3 of them up to fit in biggrin

No plans yet, although tempted to go and see Rankin Roger's BEAT line-up again after a brilliant gig in Reading in November.

I am going to see Tony Hawks (not the Skateboarder) and Milton Jones live before April.

M.

PS Am I alone in think Queen were ALWAYS dire?

As I said I knew it was controversial on here, but I saw the same concert and enjoyed it, each to his own and all that. Seeing the other bands in your post just confirms we have different tastes so there won't be any need for me to make any disparaging comments about the bands with new singers you like or the concert you're going to...I hope you enjoy it as much as I'm sure I will mine. smile

Announcement from Morrissey on six UK dates in March, tickets on sale on Friday. I'll be there for Leeds and Nottingham, possibly Birmingham if I can get the time off work.

Make as many disparaging comments as you like, I assure you as a fully grown adult I can take whatever someone on a forum says with a pinch of salt.

Well..maybe not.

Queen were really very, very poor though. Not helped by the rather embarrassing lead guitarist who thought he could fill the void left by Freddie by playing silly mistimed rock-God guitar solos at every opportunity. smile

One thing I plan to do lots of this year is go to small clubs and see bands I've never heard of. Second outing this saturday will be the Night and Day (Manchester) to see The Frankly's, supported by Bad Molly, Clay and Adam Young. I've seen occasional rubbish with this strategy, but also gold on a few occasions. I think the Frankly's sound pretty handy listening to them on Soundcloud.

I started doing this a few years ago. I've seem some rubbish but found some gems. Unfortunately a lot of them split up before making it big time (David's Lyre, Chapel Club)and others are still going but not that big (The Joy Formidable). There's a decent small venue near me which tends to get a lot of good bands in from time to time.

That's what most of my gigs have been for the past few years. Quite a few decent clubs within a 40 minute drive or so (Sound Control, Grand Central, Academies in Manchester; Lomax in Liverpool, Sanctuary Rock Bar in Burnley; one in Bury the name escapes me currently)

I usually go for a band I know (quite often a local support act) and have been surprised many a time by quality new bands. Most gigs are £10 or less for at least 4 bands so even if mediocre, still a great value night out.

One I forgot when I started this topic.
Hayseed Dixie in March. Should be a laugh and a rare gig where the musical tastes of me and the mrs coincide, so I'll be taking her. A new small venue for me, Guildford Boiler room.
