I would think that anything by Rick Wakeman, Geoff Downes or most good Prog groups would beat that into a cocked hat.
(I love JMJ by the way)

It depends on my mood.

If I want widdly-widdly noodling - Jan Hammer tears it up with Van Halen:

For something proggy but not so widdly-widdly, the mighty Mist plays a great solo in Grobschnitt's "Otto Pankrock" (Starts at 3:44 but run it from the start for some great 2 guitar interplay)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8zgjCN6JgA

For sheer fun of it, Eno's solo on "Editions of You" is a massive **** YOU to the Wakemans and Emersons. Yay!
(Starts at 1:30)

And this one from Józef Skrzek for Minimoog and Church Organ is sublime:

[edit]
This is probably *the* best solo. Klaus Schulze on screaming Minimoog from "The Dome Event". The solo starts quietly at 50:43. I was lucky to hear him do something similar at his RFH concert in 91.

That is a great sound. Sounds a lot like the big washes in Ultravox tracks. I've no idea about the equipment being used in any of these, I just love that huge sound these guys got out of what must have been fairly primitive equipment. Can anyone enlighten me as to what synth is being used to get that sound?

Snarky Puppy, Lingus.

Currently my fave band of all time. If you have 10 mins just play all of Lingus.
Then buy the album (not available on Amazon) which had this concert in HD on dvd included.

ARP Odyssey - probably.

I heard Midge Ure talking about synths a coupld of years back when Ultravox were back on the road. He said it was much better these days as things were much more reliable. On their last tour (mid 80s) they had almost synths on stage whereas now they only five or six (one for him, one for Chris Cross and three or four for Currie) plus a Macbook each.

Yep. ARP Odyssey. A regular part of Billy Curries' gear. Very powerful sound.

Steve Winwood - on John Martyn's 'Small Hours' - easily the best.

Ryo Okumoto (Spock's Beard) has done many amazing solos, this is one of my faves:

Another prog group "Arena" has some great keyboard solos. (Riding the Tid from Contagion)

But for me it's got to be Steve Hackett and the intro to "Firth of Fifth" by Genesis:

Thanks. I'm not a musician, I just love the sound the sound of those (presumably) analogue synths. Anything from Ultravox and Gary Numan to Jean Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk.
