Learning the guitar

I've got it too and can't get mine to sync either. I've tried with and without my surround system, setting everything back to factory settings etc etc & still the delay between me playing and the sound coming out of the TV makes it completely unplayable. Real shame as I could see it being a huge boost to my playing.
Isn't there something about using the hdmi cable for audio that can cause delays? I seem to remember them suggesting using a separate audio connection to avoid this. Aim to be as proficient as a2c/Guthrie Govan (hes the master of multiple styles):

3 things I'd say to anyone learning:
1). Your desire to play needs to be bigger than the chore that is learning/practising. Once you can play, practice is enjoyable but there's nothing more frustrating when you're still st. I was just so desperate to play that it kept me at it.
2). Play songs not scales. Yeah, at some point you need to really learn the theory and boring st but to begin with, nothing will drive you on faster, and help you overcome 1) than being able to play along to some of your favourites. They don't need to be hard songs, just get the rhythm parts down and jam along - solos can come later.
3). If you can't hum it, you can't play it. You need to know in your head what's coming next, rather than reaching the end of a bar and having to check what chord is next. If you can hum the whole thing (in your head or out loud) then it becomes almost like playing along with a band in your head, which is much easier.
Oh yeah, one mind thing - try and play with people as soon as you can. Nothing makes you improve faster than playing with people better than you. It develops so many musical skills as well - listening while you're playing, keeping time, balancing what you play with others. Don't get hung up on not being good enough - just get a couple songs under your belt and try and find someone to jam with.
Keep at it
