Surprised no-ones mentions Battlestar Gallactica - my fave is "Passacaglia". In fact, its one of my all time pieces of music.

The same theme, in a more uplifting format was "The Shape of Things to Come"

If you like Hans Zimmer, you'll probably like this, the soundtrack to the bleak movie "Shame"

Senna (the film) had some good music:

One of my fave sci-fi movies is Gattaca - some great pieces by Michael Nyman on that:

If you like soundtracks, you could do a lot worse than getting the Late Night Tales - At The Movies album. 39 tracks from various movie soundtracks across the years. It's one of my favourite albums!
