For those who haven't seen this :-

http://youtu.be/nwN6dPNXklg

Highlights the differences between the self proclaimed 'greatest living rock star' and one of the absolute greatest live singers of all time.

(Although Kanye is not a 'rock star' and even if he were then he's unaware of people like Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Steven Tyler, Ozzy, Axl Rose, James Hetfield etc etc etc!)

It's a very brave or a very stupid singer who provokes a direct comparison of himself with Freddie.

I'm going to go with 'stupid' in this case.

Mercury was one of the greatest frontmen of all time, and a legendary performer. Kanye West has somehow become a celebrity, in spite of possessing no real talent.

Mercury -> performer. Kanye West -> celebrity
And that gentlemen is all you'll ever need to teach your kids.

One is manufactured (thus open to a lucky few), the other has talent (which is restricted to a few that are lucky).

I disagree, The College Dropout & Graduation were decent albums. After these albums the fame went to his head and he quickly became the worlds biggest douche.

Yeah... some bloke walking around sampling other actual musicians music and then speaking a little rhyme over it. Christ, he has even nicked Pam Ayers idea of the odd ode. Sorry but speaking rhymes into a microphone is not a demonstration of any musical ability. Go learn to play an instrument. Oh, that would require some fking effort.

what would be a good song or two to listen to check out what he does?

Just wondering as until yesterday I honestly had no idea what he did (I've probably heard it on the radio but not known what it was) and the couple of random songs I located on youtube were kind of elevator music.

RapGenius may be helpful to understand what he's on about hehe

"Big Brother" A song about his relationship with Jay-Z
"Heard em say" has a really nice vibe
"Through the wire" was one of his first, the original was recorded whilst he jaw was wired after a car crash
