I used to play an Electric guitar a number of years ago (Fender Strat) and I now fancy getting a cheap acoustic to blast out some chords and finger style tunes. The problem is that I've tried some absolutely terrible cheap guitars with high actions that were pretty much unplayable.

Therefore, my main criteria are;

Budget of around £100 (could find more for the right guitar)
Good play-ability with a low action
Nice slim neck as close to an electric guitar profile as possible
Electro acoustic would be a bonus but not essential
A solid top would be nice but not essential

Any ideas?

Thanks - looks good!

Does it play a bit like an electric with a nice low action?

The other one that has caught my eye is the Yamaha F310. Both these have a slightly shorter neck than a full size, which also appeals to me.

Its whole ethos is being easy to play.

Light strings
Nice neck profile
Low action.

In comparison with my LP I fond it to be so much more in sympthay wiht ,y playing and also more organic if that makes sense.

I soemtines feel my LP taunts me from the wall, whereas the acoustic is my friemd.

For a ton what can you get better ?

I just found a nice comparison video between these 2 models.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1gPAMqRuhM

It's a tough call. The Yamaha seems like it has clearer mids but the Epiphone has a deeper tone. One comment in the video suggested the Epiphone has a slimmer neck too.

Before I go ahead and buy one of these two, are there any other options to consider at this price point? How much would I have to pay to get a solid top/electrics?

Second hand is always an option, but for new guitars I doubt you'll find a solid top much cheaper than Simon & Patrick.

A bit of research on the Epiphone reveals;

Epiphone PRO-1 £99 - Laminated top
Epiphone PRO-1 Plus £169 - Solid top
Epiphone PRO-1 Ultra £229 - Solid top electro acoustic with built in tuner

Trying to decide if I should be doubling my initial budget to get what I really want. Typical PH!

Update - I just ordered the Epiphone Pro-1 in natural finish. Can't wait to get it!

The guitar arrived today - I love it!

Nice and easy to play and it sounds pretty good, especially considering it has a laminate top with light strings.

I wish I had got one sooner.
