My first live gig was when I was 26. I've never been that into any band to make the effort to go and see them, but I've done a couple (literally) since:

Oasis
UB40
U2
Muse

Biffy Clyro(?) supported Muse. Not sure if that counts.

I don't keep a record of bands I have seen live, but there is no question as to which was the best : Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street band.

I'm not even a huge Springsteen fan, but as a live act they are without equal.

Great category!

Can think of a few who have disappeared without trace.

One in particular stands out - in the late 80s/early 90s, I used to frequent a Friday night 'rock club' in a community centre in Chester. Some great bands, but one, calling themselves 'Tai Shan' really blew me away with their live act. One of their tracks, self-penned AFAIK, should have been a hit IMO. God knows who they were or what happened to them. I still have the tape I bought that night, complete with amateur artwork, photocopied (B&W) for the sleeve.

Good times. thumbup

I have gone through phases with gigs, I made a big effort in my late teens early twenties. Then kind of on an off ever since. So instead of a list here are some random memories.

Saw Ian Gillan in 1990 on the what I think was the naked thunder tour. It was at one of Readings smaller night club venues, I don't think the sound was quite right as my ears were ringing so hard afterward everyone sounded like they had a lisp.

A few years later went to see page and plant unledded at Wembley and got stung on the head whilst killing time before getting in the queue to get in!

Last silly memory I was at the Reading festival in about 97. We had heard that there was this new band playing with an ex Nirvana bloke in it, the Foo something?! Could we get near the little marque they were playing? The crowd was massive we had no chance! Damn it!

Over the last 35 years I've seen hundreds and hundreds of bands from the 1 hit wonders to the "big boys" like The Stones, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson and Madonna etc.
However, the first band I ever saw was Saxon, who were supporting Nazareth and the last band was Take That.

The "coolest and strangest" band I ever saw was probably The Residents at the Hacienda.

There's more but I can't remember. Favourites were Radiohead, Muse who I've seen 3 times now, Rage Against the Machine, Aerosmith and Stone Temple Pilots. Never really been a Kaiser Chiefs fan but seen them twice and thought they were great both times.

Worst were some of the support acts and bands I saw at festivals I didn't want to see. Fall Out Boy. White Lies. The Big Pink.
