Went to see Travis in Bournemouth last night.
I'm certainly not a hardcore fan (as most there seemed to be), but I've always liked their stuff that I'd heard.
They put on a good, enjoyable evening, clearly a band who do what they do and don't pander to popularity.
After 20 years (blimey, I still think of them as a 'modern' band!) they seemed to be enjoying performing still.
Highlights for me were the hits "Driftwood", "Turn", "Side", "Re-Offender", the new single "Magnificent Time" and the finale "Why does it always rain on me?", but possibly the best moment was when Fran performed "Flowers in the Window" with just an acoustic guitar, no mike - Excellent moment that you could only do in a small venue like the Bournemouth O2.
Kudos, too, to the sound engineer who actually responded when I went back and reported the vocals were inaudible in the middle after the first couple of songs. After that the sound was very good - I've done it before and just got a look that suggested I didn't know what I was talking about and they knew it all!

Going to see James tonight in Newcastle. Seen them a few times over the years including Alton Towers.
Just done a YouTube search on the support act and I'm liking their stuff so far too. The Slow Readers Club. Should be a good night.
How was it? Saw them in Leeds last Saturday and again in Hull on Monday night.Just done a YouTube search on the support act and I'm liking their stuff so far too. The Slow Readers Club. Should be a good night.
Set list from Saturday. Didnt grab a Monday list, but similar.

They were awsome. I was a bit worried as the City Hall is a seated venue but everyone stood up anyway. Tim did his crowd mingling thing during some of the songs which created a great atmosphere. They did Fred Astaire which I've never heard them do live before. In a way it's a shame they have so much back catalogue as you'll never get to hear all your favourites (such as lose control) but a good mix of the new album with the old. The place erupted when Come Home came on. Set list from Saturday. Didnt grab a Monday list, but similar.
We were near the front and my cousin tried to get a set list as she collects them but after a small discussion with an arsey Scottish bloke, she didn't manage to get one. She's off to Glasgow for tomorrow's gig so she'll try again!

......
I was there last night and totally agree, very very good indeed. We were surprised they didn't play 'Sit down' last night though which was ironic given that the City Hall is an all-seater venue ......

You must be a member of the 'One Fan Clapping' James fan group on Facebook? There a tribe of setlist anoraks on there - I mean that as a compliment!

I went to see Manics last night at the Albert Hall. Missed most of Editors as my mates wanted to stay in the next door student bar a bit longer.
I thought they would have finished their support set with one of the first album singles but no, they played some very mediocre prog track.
Manics were good. I'm no massive fan, I prefer their really early stuff but it was good to hear their anthemic well known tunes. You put on a good show. Still wish they'd played Motown Junk, my fave song.
Also managed to meet James Dean Bradfield adter the gig. I was a bit drunk by then, and it was late, so he didn't seem to keen on a chat. Better than that, I bumped into Kevin Cummins who was up for a chat.

I went on Monday night, likewise gave Editors a swerve (I thought their first two albums were great, but have gone well off the boil since Chris Urbanowicz departed). Maniacs were on top form, I'd have gone again on Tuesday if I could've swung it past SWMBO! Not really followed them since the early 90s but one of my most memorable gigs was in the 80s in a small room in Manchester town hall. They played 2 gigs in a day and the second one was rammed to a ridiculous degree. The first one hadn't been publicised properly and there was only 13 people there, including a couple of toddlers.
They still gave it the full beans.
Hmm never got into them back in the day.
One band I was into for their first few singles was InMe. Who I watched tonight. Turns out they have a tump of material and there's a lot of brilliant guitarwork on them! Really st hot tonight, loved it.
Press to MECO in support were superb as always. New band called Orcas on first... you can tell they are new to it all but I thought they were really good. Kinda like Black Peaks but maybe a little softer and with keyboards.
