Yes he did...and Seasick Steve at Wembley Arena amongst many others. Looking forward to a few gigs next year, he's certainly getting some great names on his roster!
And making it hard for touts good on him.

Let me know how it went. I'm sure you'll enjoy the show, even if they're not your kind of thing! I'm going to the O2 show on Thursday.
Ok. Not so good really.
Support act the worst band I have even seen live in 30 years. And I have seen some terrible stuff.

The 1975 - what to say?

I am not target market as I am 47 - but they sound like a 1980's tribute band. Some of their up tempo stuff starts almost getting there BUT they sounds like a band with 5 OK songs stretching it out over 90 minutes plus.

I did also go and see 1D in the posh seats and prefer The 1975 in the cheap ones - but not by much.

Went to see Kula Shaker on Monday night at the Birmingham Institute - 20th anniversary of their 'K' album which they played in its entirety. Brilliant show, always wanted to see them back in the 90's but never got the chance.and for once I didn't have to watch it through everyone else's mobile phones - benefits of an older audience I suppose.

Cracking venue, and brilliant support act from a south coast based band called 'Rudy Warman & The Heavy Weather' - These are well worth checking out if you like bluesy rock - would definitely go see them again. They really got the place moving.

Fair enough. It's The Japanese House supporting, right? They are part of the same record label, but are young and just getting started. Also, The 1975 have helped produce some of their songs. Maybe the jump from playing venues of 200 to venues of 20,000 hindered their performance?

Regarding The 1975, I can see your criticism, but like you said, you're not really their market. You probably saw lots of crazy screaming teenage girls at the front, which is a good chunk of their fanbase (and me of course! biggrin). I saw on Twitter, some people had started queueing on Monday night so they could be at the front.

Obviously the record label see something in them though to give them exposure to thousands of new fans on the 1975 tour.

They obviously hope the payback is jap. house become as popular as the 1975 and start making the label some money.

I was actually surprised how sedate the crowd was.

LIke I said last night, when they pieced together some up tempo stuff they got something going but mostly it seemed flat.

My 13 yr old and her mate enjoyed it, but they weren't buzzing like at a few other gigs i have taken them to.

AS that's my lot for the year, the gig of the year for me was a surprise - The Fall, supported by Cabbage

A surprise as although I have always liked The Fall, they were crap the few times I saw them in the 80s and 90s.

Just got back from Beartooth.

Was looking forward to Trash Boat as support. I saw them at Hevy 2015 and they came on before As It Is and were much better. Their first full length is my most listened to album this year and is fantastic. But I don't know if they are worn out (said it's the longest they've ever toured) but the singer didn't bother trying to hit the big high notes and anytime there was a big repeating chorus he'd skip every other line...

I doubt they won any new fans. Shame.

Vanna were pretty good and got the crowd warmed up ready for beartooth. Beartooth nailed it - I thought they were good at Download but suspected they suited a smallish venue... and I was right!

Have you got tickets for four year strong or a day to remember next year?

You try living in the ass end of Somerset or Cornwall then fair enough you complain about your gig commute but reading to London?

Is the purple turtle still going in reading?
That's one of the many reasons why I love holidaying in Cornwall but could never live there.

Point I'm trying to make is that the Roundhouse (having been 30+ times) has an established 'one support band and 9pm for the headliner' policy. This works well - you generally don't get reams of people leaving before the end. Ash decided to chuck in two supports that I don't think that many had interest in, thus going on later. Their perogative to do so of course, but I won't be shelling 30 quid a ticket to see them in future.

The PT is still going, rather too strong as it goes, as it is unfortunately sucking the life out of other indie venues that struggle to compete. It's gone from dive bar to almost a 'brand' in itself and is set for further expansion. Great for the PT, but I fear for its contemporaries.

I saw Placebo last night at Wembley Arena. They were good, as they played a fair few old ones, celebrating their 20th year as a band.

..but I wasn't blown away. To me the last 2 albums are a bit average, and they still enjoy playing those songs. I'd be happy if they just played songs from their first 2 albums or even their first 10 years..

I won't be rushing back to see them.

I must admit when bands have been going for years, I tend to look out for specific old album tours rather than going to see them promote their latest offering with a few oldies thrown in. I'm not a big Primal Scream fan but I went to see the Screamadelica tour and it brilliant. The Wonder Stuff Hup tour was the same. I went to see James recently and it was a good gig but there was a lot of stuff I hadn't heard and wasn't too bothered about. I'd much rather see them do a Laid tour or Seven.

James get a lot of stick on Twitter from people who have gone to see them and not heard their old favourites. Tim Booth even gets involved, trying to justify their stance.

I saw them at Glastonbuty and they played a lot of newer stuff...though added a few classics so as not to lose the crowd.

The Cure get it right, they play the poppy songs that casual listens like but also cover their back catalogue through the last 40 years. It keeps very one happy.

Didn't The Cure play for 3 hours recently? Seems a bit long!!!

Plus one of my memorable gigs was James in front of 12 people plus me and my girlfriend at Manchester Town Hall - we used to love them back then.

Final gig of the year was The 1975 (again) last night at The O2. Arrived late so I was as far back as I could get so the view wasn't great. The gig was though! I kept looking around at the whole arena gobsmacked, at all these people here to see The 1975. I still can't comprehend how big they are now, and how far they've come!

I do regret driving though. £31 parking, late because of traffic and then over an hour sitting stand-still trying to get out after the show. I finally got home at about 4.30am. I should've parked up in town and got the tube in. Gonna see if I can find some cheap flights and see them on their European tour next year.

The 1975 have had a really good year , it wasn't that long ago i watched them at exeter cavern club which holds 200 odd!

I think my award for hardest working band of the year goes to moose blood , they've pretty much toured the whole year and next will be the same with a support slot with a day to remember before they head off to the states again on there own headline tour.

Boy jumps ship tonight is my last gig of the year , always a pleasure to meet up with them and have a beer and discuss the woes of newcastle united and sunderland.

Are they a real band then?
I presumed they were a record label creation aimed at older teens and young adults.

Hence the lead singer bemoaning not being able to smoke whilst drinking a glass of white wine.

Neck Deep were pants when I saw them - the children there seemed to like them though.
