I still can't comprehend how big they are now, and how far they've come!
Never heard of them biggrin
Are they a real band then?
I presumed they were a record label creation aimed at older teens and young adults.
Their success has happened very quickly. I think they've been together for about 10 years, but only became known in 2013 after Chocolate was released and was being played on mainstream radio. They've only released 2 albums, but they both went to number 1, so they must be doing something right!

Just checked - formed in 2002!

so just 14 years to become an over night success then.

They were better than 1D, I will give them that.

The Chemical Brothers on Saturday at the Apollo... just... wow!

Seen them so many times over the years but this gig, just so polished! Sound was bang on, amazing visuals, great (slighty older) crowd that were well up for it...

Such a good night!
Good weren't they!

I went to see The 1975 on a whim. I only started listening to their music 2 days before but managed to get the gist of which 3 or 4 songs were the best in my own opinion (and they were indeed the ones that got the best reception live).

Started off OK but after about 6 or 7 songs it nosedived quite a bit - as someone else said above, its like they have 5 or 6 reasonable songs and are trying to stretch it out to 24. They got it oging again for the final 2 songs.

Absolutley loads of young teenage fans who kept the cheering going a bit more than maybe a gig with a different crowd would.

It was an OK gig but I wouldn't pay to see them again (only paid £20 for the ticket which was worth £32 I think).

General criticisms (because I always compare against other bands):

bit more pop than I expected
songs are samey - not enough variety
singer is limited vocally and all songs sung in a similar fashion
no real technical ability from the instrumentalists

That being said, if they released a new album I would probably check it out as I don't mind a catchy song.

My daughter really likes the 1975, but when I bought her tickets for her birthday a couple of years ago, I encouraged her to go with her boyfriend instead of going with her as I felt very much the same as you about them.

I've booked for Squeeze next October!

ETA - And Ben Watt in February.
