The birth year instruments thread
Discussion
So some of us are getting to the age/income level where there is a big birthday, and it's a fine excuse for a vintage instrument.
Does anyone have an instrument that comes from their birth year? *snerk*
Tom C76 - Gibson LP? I know you are looking for one...
Personally I'm after a 1976 Flying V....

Many of the (classical) players I use have instruments over 250 years old. The interesting thing is that they never say they 'own' the instrument. The are just custodians, knowing the instrument will outlive them by many generations. Bit spooky really.
I have a 1960's VOX bass, it's crap - cost me £5 a long, long, long time ago. I still have a Status bass I bought 31 years ago new (cost me best part of £1800 even then).... but I did over 500 gigs with - couldn't part with it, It doesn't owe me anything.
As for the birth year... The Lotus Seven was born in the same month as me. It'll do me fine.

As a child of the 1970's, the earliest bit of kit I've got is a 1978 mains powered MXR flanger pedal. It's very lovely with a metal body and bakelite knobs, and produces some great effects.
For a year of birth piece? If Marshall were still producing 100W "Plexi" amps at the time, then one of those would do for me.

I was all set to buy a '65 Reissue Fender Deluxe reverb for my birthday this year, but tried one and turned out I didn't like it. A real one would be far too much money and probably need a fair bit of work as well. I've got an original 'Jem'wah wah pedal, but I'm not sure of the age, probably newer than 1965 though.
