Ritchie Blackmore Rainbow Concerets 2016
Discussion
Was delighted to hear that for probably the last time Mr Blackmore was returning to rock.
Also thought it good that he was going to use new people in the Rainbow line up
Ronnie Romero on vocals. Now it may be that the new vocalist upsets people but personally I think some vocalists are past their prime. David Coverdales recent Purple Album was a great listen but showed the ravages of time.
Even Ritchie makes a reference to ageing in some of the interviews (though you never know with him whether he is joking or not) citing "athritis"

Purple/ Rainbow/ Zeppelin/ Whitesnake etc were all important parts of my youth and a lot of that music is still very important to me now

Aha - I'll have a look for clips.
ETA Too many DP songs in the setlist IMO, I've seen DP many times over the years and they're excellent but why think Rainbow fans are interested in that stuff? If Rainbow announce more gigs in 2017 I would take a punt, they're certainly not worth the astronomical ticket price at Birmingham though.

This and some similar videos on the same page of you tube may make some happier

It is still VERY Ritchie Blacknore style and its amazing how his style is so very identifiably him.

Good show - holds a standard as good as the other good touring acts out there
singer was outstanding
rithcie was good - a couple of solos i feel he didn't 'catch fire' like i have heard him on other bootlegs from back in the 70's but that is to be expected
all in all a very good show.
also i woudl say, a lot of the issues you notice on videos you dont notice as much when the sound is 500 times loud and you are caught in the moment.

I saw Ritchie several times in the early seventies, both with Deep Purple Mk 2 and 3, and one thing puzzles me....
Why he has twice as much thick dark hair now as he had in 1974?
If you think about it you may tWIG the answer. Why he has twice as much thick dark hair now as he had in 1974?
One thing that struck me as well is that as guitarists get older the guitars get that much higher. I noticed this as well with New Orders set from Glastunbury.
Either way Ritchies stuff has been with me on and off since 1975 and I thank him for that.
Some of the German material has now been released on DVD and CD

I have the CD and its not as bad as you might think or as good as I had hoped but it has a very good version of Stargazer on it and there is some intricate typical Blackmore guitar work throughout.

First saw the late Ronnie James Dio in action in Elf, supporting Deep Purple Mk 3 at Belle Vue, Manchester in 1974.
Shortly afterwards, Blackmore quit Purple,(who replaced him with Tommy Bolin), and formed Rainbow with Dio on vocal duties.
Saw Rainbow several times in the mid seventies....Happy days.
