Do you like your Dad's music?
Discussion
When I was younger I used to love going in the car with my dad because he drove fast. But I didn't like his loud, head banger music; Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Law, Paul Rodgers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Muddy Water Blues, Queen etc etc etc...
Couldn't wait for the day I could play my own music in the car.
But now? What kind of things do I listen to often, in the car and at home? Yep.... Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and the list goes on. At the time it was rubbish old man music. Now its easily still many stratospheres higher than the pop crap crimped out by the likes of Simon Cowel. Stairway to Heaven, Black Night and Free Bird and anything that comes out of Freddie Mercury's mouth are particular faves.
Is it just a case of good music is good music or did my Dad's taste in music get baked into my subconscious as a little boy?

Queen, Roxy Music, Eurythmics, Dire Straits I can cope with quite happily. Never grasped his love for Abba though
Although to this day, at 68, he tends to still come up with newer bands though. Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys etc are all on his playlists
Although he doesn't seem to share my love of Disturbed, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Five Finger Death Punch etc.

My Mum and Dad were, (although not so much now in their late 60's, but still venture to the odd gig) massive concert goers, been to see hundreds, so naturally I've listened to a hell of a lot that transcended down to the car, my dads office as he worked, I dont think the Radio in the kitchen has ever been turned off in 30 years.
Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Yes, Santana, Genesis, Queen, Dire Straits, Led Zep, Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, Marillion, Clapton, The Stones, The Who - the whole nine yards. Coupled with the fact that my dad was a bit of an audiophile and hi-fi freak, it was usually on most of the time. In answer to the question, I've always loved it (how may 8 year olds could play Crime of the Century on the Piano eh?) and still listen to a lot of it, I think it influenced my choices when I was growing up in to the whole dance music scene, then back into Rock/Jazz and everything in between.
No fking Pop music though, sadly Mrs Tiga prefers the whole X factor bks.
Still, I have headphones.

My dad would only listen to sport in the car on an AM radio, usually golf or cricket, the muffled voices reminded me of the teacher on Charlie Brown.
I always hated it, the passenger(s) in the car would have to sit in absolute silence so he could hear the pointless chatter.
Music he would only play classical and opera, was never a fan of opera but love classical music, never liked 'best of' bits like you get from an advert but a full concerto is often lovely. I was about 7 years old before I heard anything else other than his music, I remember at school having a party where they had a DJ who opened with Kim Wilde's 'Kids in a America' presumably a hit at the time, I was really scared by it as I didn't know what to make of it and with all the other kids enthusiastically singing along made it all the more terrifying, how did they all know what it was?!!

My late dad liked classical, choir and church music; I fking hate classic music.
I have memories of being at home as a child with Classic FM blaring away at full volume in the garage, whilst he worked on his cars; it really used to grate me.
However even though I'm not a massive choir or church music fan, if there is a really big and moving piece playing, it often brings a tear to my eye as it reminds me of him.
