Sky News reporting that David Bowie has died from cancer at the age of 69.

I was just listening to his new album the other day, which is excellent BTW.

Just been announced David Bowie has lost his battle with cancer. He was a bit it or miss for me but created some truly ground breaking tunes :-(

I had a feeling he was ill, as he looked very frail compared how he was in 2013. The last song in the new album sounded like sign off too.

"Seeing more and feeling less
Saying no but meaning yes
This is all I ever meant
That's the message that I sent

I can't give everything
I can't give everything
Away..."

Can't believe it. Surely Bowie can't die. Bowie wasn't one of us. Bowie is different. Bowie was a dream. He was Bowie.

I find these moments both sad and a bit eerie. Certain people you idolise when you are young have a perceived immortality about them. He was one of them. It knocks you back a bit when you hear the news.

Not a good fortnight for music.
Lemmy, Natalie Cole, John Bradbury and now Bowie.
Really drives home the point of "I couldn't give a fk if Cheryl Cole is getting a fking divorce"

It's a weird sense of emptiness... these people do become like friends.

Shocked and saddened by the news.

Travel well Starman.

I have to say that of all the "celebrity" deaths, this one has very definitely affected me far more than any other to date. I clearly remember as a 13 year old rushing out with my Christmas money to buy Aladdin Sane, to play on my new Christmas cassette player. I can even tell you which shop I was in, in which town; probably even where I stood in the shop. The shop had never heard of the album and I had to "settle" for Ziggy, and save up again for Aladdin. That was 42 years ago eek ....and I've been a massive fan ever since. Can't believe it was that long ago, very scary how time passes us.

I was really upset this morning when the news broke, and sitting in a coffee shop at lunchtime I started to read more and read the tributes, and I had to stop. Of course, fellow PHers, I absolutely need to man up. But right now I don't feel much like doing so.

Rip David, shed a few tears this morning, complete shocker.Turned to my dog who i named Bowie(when i first seen her eyes)and cried even more.Had an unbelievable dream about Bowie during being knocked out at the dentist for a few minutes. It was during the modern love, china girl era.I was standing on the local beach in complete darkness and he was floating out in the sea on a stage with the light blue suit on and the blonde hair, dream lasted the whole concert!!Weird considering i was out cold for such a short period.
Here's what Bowie thinks of the other big news of the day,Cheryl Coles divorce!

You'll be so sadly missed,a true legend!!

Never been so affected by an artist dying. Bowie influenced so much of the music I loved when growing up - and later I grew to appreciate his stuff far more than I ever did as a kid.

He never followed anyone. He borrowed but always with a view to put his own twist on something and make it "his". Very few musicians last - I'm 51 and he's been making music for all of my life. And for 75% of that time, successfully.

The guy was a genius and few will ever have the influence he did.

Sad death of a true legend.
Bought his new album on Sunday and was listening to it on the way to work not knowing he had passed away.
Deeply shocked.
Interesting demographic on this forum. 6 pages for Lemmy, another music great , but only 16 posts for Bowie !
I cannot think of any musician who influenced so many different bands, singers during his career.

I dont think he will be judged on PH posts.... But there are many more pages in the main news section.

This one is going about:

Dear Death.
We would like Lemmy and David back. We are willing to trade Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Katie Hopkins and the entire Conservative party, we will even throw in Piers Morgan as a bonus. Deal?
