I thought Chris Martin (and Coldplay) were excellent tonight, and the atmosphere was amazing.

Well done.

Great special guest...
Just what I came to post.

Thought Staying Alive with Coldplay was brilliant, they could have ended the show right there!

I'm glad my humble opinion made you laugh but I would suggest that my opinion is as valid as yours.
This is not about your or my taste, or who you think performed better. It's the commercial reality of running a huge festival. Punters (the majority in their 20s which I wager you are not) want big current bands to be headlining, unless you are massive like Rolling Stones

Enjoyed the Coldplay set, but Eavis coming on at the end was just awful to watch. Ruined it really.

LCD Soundsystem were brilliant.

Just watching james on iplayer, and I have to what an excellent set. Good to see him out in the crowd having a bit of a surf!

Even at Glastonbury where the tickets sell out and have a long waiting list for cancellations even before a single act is announced? I can't see the choice of acts having any impact in the short term, long term yes, poor choices of acts could result in less people going. Viewing figures on the BBC the other hand...

Yes I was pleasantly surprised. Flicked it on after Jo Whiley complimented their set. It did seem a bit slow in a couple places but overall very good.

Of course it won't affect in year 1 as people buy tickets well before line up announced, but 90% of the audience don't want to see creaky old 70s bands as headliners, they want big current acts to justify £240 tickets. So yes it would affect TV audiences and eventually attendances.
Also the 4pm slot is a tradition, some quality but past it old timers that put on a good show, perfect post hang over chill out, that attracts the biggest crowds, regardless of current band popularity.

Personally I am not that fussed who the headliners are (this year was my 13th I think) as there are always good alternatives - The Who are one of the most overrated bands ever IMHO and I had no intention of listening to their stodgy dad rock and had a great time watching the chemical brothers. There again I am a way from my 20s so a minority vote

Also enjoyed the rather short piece shown by BBC of Fat boy slim set.

Dance music not really my thing but he just mashes it all up so well.
Yes I caught that. Wish they'd shown more, a favourite of mine (his chart peak was around my clubbing days!) He just loves what he does and he is expert at it
We saw that and thought the crowd looked a bit bored during a lot of it? Whenever he would drop in a small piece of one of his big songs most of the crowd didn't react when I think I would take that as a cue to go nuts! We were watching on the red button and it didn't seem like highlights. Enjoyed it though, I'm 34.

^^i think the ones at the front were too crammed in to do much else tbh. The crowd were responsive but the snippets did annoy me, I was ready to dance to it (whilst doing my ironing smile )

I actually watched it on the red button last night so saw it all this time.

We agree on the TV coverage, but your second paragraph confirms what I think, most people who go don't care who is headlining.

Personally I think the Chemical Brothers are a dad band and the Who a granddad band wink Glastonbury's band selection hasn't grabbed me as a must go for a long time. Far too many Coldplays and Adeles for me.

Did you see the reaction to Jay Z or Kanye West? And to a lesser extent Adele

I don't care now and neither do the regulars I go with, but I did when I went the first couple of times, and the 7 or 8 youngsters in the extended crowd were only talking about Adele and Coldplay

Not watched Coldplay or ELO (bloody hell, they were a bit old hat in the late 70s!) yet, but I did watch New Order's (stupidly short) set.

I'm biased, they're probably my favourite band, but I thought they were pretty damned good.

I did see the reaction, and I laughed at it as it was obvious it would have zero impact on if Glastonbury would sell out or not.

People go to Glastonbury, they don't go to see Adele or Coldplay at Glastonbury. As the event has sold out far in advance of who is on and with the ticket resale protection that Glastonbury has implemented in recent years it is next to impossible to buy a ticket on the black market when the acts are finally announced.

I'm sure fans of Adele or Coldplay were chuffed when they were announced as headliners as they are expensive to see live so the ticket to Glastonbury returned excellent value to the numerous Adele or Coldplay fans.

Lets just agree to disagree.

I think a band like ELO are great in the 4pm Sunday slot but don't want to see them headlining - same with Yes, Jethro Tull, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd (insert 70s rock band of your choice). If that sort of older band regularly headlined I think the majority of the target audience (20s) would stop coming. I would not come as much either.

I was lucky enough to get tickets this year for the third year on the trot!

I've never been and come away disappointed, though the line up this year was probably the poorest since I first went in 2000. Years ago I used to see quite a few bands on the Pyramid stage, this year, only 2. I'm not too bothered about that.

Highlights? Foals for sure, loved it that they finished on a track, "Two Step, Twice" from their first album.

Bat for Lashes - I hadn't seen her for ages, the new material sounded as good as anything else she's done.

The Mystery Jets - ended up seeing them twice. Once on the John Peel stage, and then a couple of hours later at the Stummerville bit. Both sets were great, though the 2nd one being infront of maybe 100+ people, felt a bit more special.

Dancing Years - just stumbled upon them at the BBC Introducing.. stage. Loved them, quite melancholic and more heartfelt than anything I heard on the main stage.

New Order were set up to be my highlight before I went, but they were disappointing. Too many new songs combined with an out of tune Bernard didn't set the world alight.

Richard Hawley was also great up on the Park stage, but I spent most the gig talking to a random girl in the crowd, that I didn't pay all my attention to the music.. laugh

I hope that next years there's a few more noisy rock bands, there weren't nearly enough for my liking. That's if I get a ticket again...laugh
