Some interesting and slightly sad news about the recent "hearing loss" shenanigans at AC/DC - if the article is to be believed, it does seem a bit abrupt!

Sad if true, have followed them and been a fan since the late 70's but i find it hard to believe. Every interview ive ever seen has been Angus and Brian and they seemed almost like brothers. Whats gone on recently with Phil and Malcolms illness it would just be Angus and Cliff (is he even still involved)?

Having read several AC/DC biographies including Mark Evan's Dirty Deeds, I wouldn't be in the least surprised if the Young brothers (so just Angus these days) decided to chuck Brian Johnson out on his ear with not even a nod and then immediately forget them and get someone else in in their place.

If you saw the recent documentary about AC/DC on BBC4, there is a lot of string pulling behind the scenes by 2 management gurus, one of whom is Angus's elder brother. They are the power behind the throne, and it is almost as though the band is a manufactured line up. Angus is now the only original member.

If as muted, Johnson was ejected because the business needs to keep rolling, not sure Axl's timekeeping is going to fit too well smile

Even in his prime Axl couldn't sing as well or as high as BJ. These days I'm not sure he can sing like Bon Scott, and we stick mainly to early AC/DC stuff because the vocals are easier to reach.

If they wanted someone from that era, surely Sebastian Bach would make more sense?

Dave Evans perhaps? (The original singer before Bon Scott)

Brian Johnson can't sing. His vocals are virtually unintelligible and his stage presence is that of a man simply going through the motions. Having said that I'd rather it was him fronting the band in Manchester this summer than anyone else I can think of. I know age gets us all, but the quality of Johnson's performances have dropped tremendously in the last ten years. Just because you're old doesn't mean you can't sing well and put on a professional performance (See: Deep Purple, Status Quo, Wishbone Ash etc etc). No great loss, but ACDC doesn't need the grandstanding of Rose. Lead singer of some young Aussie band like Tracer would be fine, or at a stretch Airbourne.

I always felt the guy from Airbourne had a good mix of Brian Johnson and Bon Scott about him. Voice more Johnson, with a bit more of Bon Scott's charm?

I've been an AC/DC fan for a long long time, and I love Airbourne, but would hate to see Airbourne quit just to keep AC/DC going for one more tour/album etc.

Why should Airbourne quit? In reality ACDC only need a singer for a few U.S, dates don't they? (unfortunately).

Just to show I'm not a total Brian Johnson hater, here's a superb version of Riff Raff with an animated Johnson claiming the stage:
