I was going to bump this old thread but thought it might be ok to start a new one.

This year I'm taking Little Ex to Beautiful Days

I haven't been to a festival for getting on over two decades now, but I'm really looking forward to this one.

Gutted that an over due Little Ex turning ten a few days before the festival starts has cost me (an extra 30 quid) I was wondering how much amphetamine that would buy these days. I don't know. hehe

I was tempted to order the under ten ticket and risk it, but can you imagine the disappointment if they check and you can't get in - a 'Spike Island' issue that I don't want to be part of.

Anyway - back to the music and entertainment. There's a good lot of my old time favourites in the line up. There's also a heap of bands I've never heard of.

I'd appreciate some 'heads up' type posts for the lower order bands that we really should go and see. Being an old fart I'm stuck in my 'childhood headliners' vein.

I'm slowly working my way through them via youtube but some help from you lot would be great.

Also of course, any one here going too?

That actually looks pretty good. I can't help you on the bands though, like yourself I haven't heard of a lot of them.

We were looking at going down to Devon in the summer, might run it by the missus to see if she fancies it with the sprogs.

That's a really good line up. Unfortunately there's no chance of me getting time off in August, to go.

Given that on the phone I have bands like

Levellers
Wonderstuff
Stone Roses
Pixies
Ramones
New Model Army
Arctic Monkeys
Anderson/Tull
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Uncle Tupelo
Deus
Jane's Addiction
Lee Scratch Perry
Dinosaur Jnr
and God forbid Marillion hehe

On car journeys Little Ex has no problem in choosing a wide variety of tunes from the list. A few pointers for a 'must see' from you would be appreciated.

Thanks

How and why would anyone bother checking her age? I say our 11 year old is the age he needs to be all the time and it's rarely questioned and there's certainly no way for anyone on a gate to "check" in any case. They're not going to turn a family away for the sake of a kid's ticket anywhere surely?

Perhaps you are right, but it does say in the small print that proof of age may be required. He's quite tall and generally looks and acts a lot older than he really is.

No matter now, it's done. Don't get me started on tickets for the ferry hehe

Really looking forward to it, should be a great weekend, and hopefully something he can remember for years and years.

Perhaps you can ask what proof of age they accept when you're there...I'd love to know.

Just to follow up on the thread.

IT WAS F**KING ACE!

An absolutely brilliant few days with Little Ex. So much stuff to entertain kids and there aren't many ten year olds that can put their hand up in class and say 'Well Miss, this weekend I was leaning over the barriers at the front of a Leftfield gig.'

He loved it, I loved it, The Damned were the highlight of the entire weekend for me - I'd always maintained that The Ramones were the best pop band in the world, but The Damned edged it that night. To the point where they played an extra hour.

I managed to get Little Ex sat on the barrier at the front of the sound desk for the headline Levellers' set (giving my shoulders a break), what a show! They played a lot of their early songs and a few people commented about Little Ex belting out all the words to the songs smile

If anyone is considering taking kids to a festival, this has to be one to consider. Especially because at night & camping there isn't the constant thump thump thump thump of techno playing out from other tents (it was mainly old people snoring that kept you awake).

Everyone there seemed super friendly, a really good warm and friendly atmosphere.

An utterly ace weekend, 9/10 - would highly recommend. smile

Good to hear it, I have friends go every year, but they gave it a swerve to go to Cropredy instead, but wished they hadn't.

We haven't been yet, and had other plans that clashed with it this year, but good to hear other positive stories about it.

I'm a big James fan, would've liked to have seen them, but catching them at On Blackheath in a couple of weeks instead.

I saw The Damned earlier in the month at Rebellion festival, they were fantastic there.
Beautiful days wasn't something I've heard of so will have a look into it. I'm bored of camp bestival now and would like to find somewhere else to go with the kids.

Is 'Retard' a naughty word these days? Can you legally call your son one?

Just thinking back as IIRC The Coral were about to come on. Little Ex said 'This sounds st - I don't like this at all, can we go somewhere else?'

"It's a f**king sound check you ret**d"

hehe

Glad you liked it, but don't say it too loud or the tickets will sell out too quickly next year. We've been the llast couple of years - it's ten miles up the road from us - and, apart from last year's rain, thoroughly enjoyed the. Unfortunately due to circumstances we couldn't make this year but hopefully will be there again next year.

The band I'm in - The Steve Eggs Band - played at Beautiful Days on the Bandstand stage for the first time this year.

We had a brilliant time. A really relaxed, fun atmosphere and it all seemed exceptionally well-organised.

Highlight for me (apart from our set, obviously smile) was The Frank and Walters on the Bandstand on Saturday evening. Just after they started the rain came down...so they got the audience up on stage with them for the rest of the set....

Great stuff!

Looks like there's a bit for everyone in there.

Is Fat Pat still with the Sisters? hehe
