New Radiohead stuff, 'Burn The Witch'
Discussion
So not long after they seemed to be blanking off their internet/social media stuff, there's a new single on Apple/Spotify/download and a video on Youtube of a new song, ' Burn The Witch'. It's more instrumental/strings than the weirder recent stuff, still dark though
"Stay in the shadows
Cheer at the gallows
this is a roundup"
and the video is a Trumpton version of the Wicker Man . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI2oS2hoL0k

Ahem http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Thought that'd be an easy spot...
Sounds good - looking forward to the album.

I like that. I was a huge fan of them when in uni, 15 years ago but have found their releases since then a bit meh. Here's hoping the new album is as good as this as it would be a brilliant return to form.
Same here, college and uni for me was Pablo Honey through to OK Computer. I bought Kid A and Amnesiac after that, but wasn't into them as much as the first albums, and less into the albums after that. Now, they have my attention again.Another new song today called Daydreaming.

Not clear whether this or Burn the Witch are both on the album or standalone singles.
Oh yes, that album that we've awaited so long, it arrives on Sunday.

The album is out. A Moon Shaped Pool.
Been listening this morning - it is pretty downbeat. Not sure I like what they have done True Love Waits tbh. The live version will always be my favourite I think. Anyone recall an upbeat Radiohead record?
They are without doubt my favourite band of all time - but they simply aren't going to go back to writing rocky guitar anthems - I don't see a reprise of their style on the first three albums anytime soon. Or ever. And that's a good thing - if you want to hear a band to the same st ad-infinitum then go and listen to AC/DC, Foo Fighters, or any of the other purveyors of old rope.
Everything from Kid A onwards has been 'challenging' - some of it has been pretty much unlistenable to my ears - but there have always been gems of pure genius in even the most unaccessable works.
Downloaded the new one today - 6Music played the whole thing last night but i was cooking, bathing kids etc so it didn't get my full attention - but there were bits in there which stood out. Burn the witch is fantastic.
I need a long car journey to give it a good 4 listens - from what I heard so far i like it much more than King of Limbs.

I think 'In Rainbows' is an upbeat album. It's all relative to the other stuff obviously but the overall feel of that album is of Radiohead remembering to enjoy themselves in my opinion.
Just hope this new one is better than 'King of Limbs', which I found dull and disappointing.

First impressions of this one after 2 listens are that it is better than King of Limbs, which was hard to love - it was a bit dull and too glitchy. It did have Separator on, which is one of their best though.

Did 4 listens today back-to-back in the car.
Great album - it will continue to grow on me i think - as they all have. Standout tracks so far are:
Burn the Witch
Decks Dark
Identikit
The Numbers -which I think is my favourite. The strings on it are incredible
I'd add Glass Eyes to that list which was the first track to really grab me. The arrangement is so sparse but intricate, almost like they deleted every note that wasn't absolutely required.Great album - it will continue to grow on me i think - as they all have. Standout tracks so far are:

My favourite band too, by some distance.Edited by Mr Gearchange on Monday 9th May 19:01
King of Limbs has some great songs on it - Codex being one of their best songs in recent years - but didn't work so well as an album imo.
Love all their stuff, looking forward to a proper listen to A Moon Shaped Pool
