Anyone recall an upbeat Radiohead record?

They are without doubt my favourite band of all time - but they simply aren't going to go back to writing rocky guitar anthems - I don't see a reprise of their style on the first three albums anytime soon. Or ever. And that's a good thing - if you want to hear a band to the same st ad-infinitum then go and listen to AC/DC, Foo Fighters, or any of the other purveyors of old rope.

Everything from Kid A onwards has been 'challenging' - some of it has been pretty much unlistenable to my ears - but there have always been gems of pure genius in even the most unaccessable works.

Downloaded the new one today - 6Music played the whole thing last night but i was cooking, bathing kids etc so it didn't get my full attention - but there were bits in there which stood out. Burn the witch is fantastic.
I need a long car journey to give it a good 4 listens - from what I heard so far i like it much more than King of Limbs.

I'm firmly in the 'hate everything from Kid A onwards' camp. I've tried, and I mean really tried, to 'get' them, but just find anything after OK Computer to be unlistenable dirge. Just my subjective opinion of course, but I just have a great deal of disappointment having loved their first three albums. They clearly wanted to go in a different direction to what I hoped, but I think I'll just throw in the towel even trying with them now.

I hear you - Kid A was, for me, a huge dissapointment after OK Computer - it felt as like they were trying to make it as unaccessable as possible and i really didn't enjoy that or the next record.
I though that when they released The Daily Mal we were going to see a return to their old ways - but it seems that was just an anomaly.

However, after probably 25 listens I would say that A Moon Shaped Pool is in the top 3 works they have produced. It's worth the investment.

Generally, i am with you on this - but i like "A wolf at the door" from HTTT, "Knives Out" from Amnesiac, and Motion Picture Soundtrack from Kid A. Mind you, thats slim picking from all the albums since OK Computer! biggrin

Pretty much this. Every new record has pushed the boundries. That is a very good thing.

Kid A and Amnesiac are two of my very favourite albums, absolutely superb.

In Rainbows is probably the best balance between the experimental, and classic Radiohead.

Jigsaw falling into place is such a tune smile
