Why would you call a lift Peter Gabriel?
Go on tell us?
Because they'd already named the gents in honour of Phil Collins?

Unlucky sod wink

No-one at all, unless you count Royal Ascot where I stood next to Diana Spencer (as was) - Security back then was very light touch!

I am, though, notoriously rubbish at recognising famous people, so I could be standing next to Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian or Usher at a gig for all I know (or care).

I stood next to, and briefly said hello, to Brian May at the Fleece in Bristol in about 1998 whilst watching the Pulkas and some other now unknown metal band. He was going through his weird industrial metal album phase and so was I!
Brian May was at my wedding coincidentally.

Well actually he was eating dinner in the adjoining restaurant and I happened to stumble across him at some point with a WTF look on my face hehe

I may have even said it out loud before realising my voice was quite loud!

Easily done :-) You going to his 75th birthday gig?

If only he had stepped back from the limelight after Face Value, he would have a lot less money but would still command the high regard he had at that point(quite righty too imho), four years later and he was well and truly caught up in the nasty eighties scene, that mullet at Live Aid!!

Having been out of action with that trial for about three years, I'm not surprised. I though I'd seen him for the last time but, luckily, not.

I was at the same dinner as Dennis Thatcher once. This was in the old West Car Park Restaurant at Twickenham. During a break, I went for a J. Carroll and found myself next to Dennis. He hit his head on the concrete roof and said "ess aitch 1 tee".

Does that count?
Denis Thatcher does l33tspk?

I reckon the world is on for a Collins renaissance, some of his work was bloody amazing. Try out Marscape by Jack Lancaster (its on spotify) JAZZ WARNING!

Last siouxsie and the banshees tour (1995?) at the Shepherd's Bush Empire, saw Gary Numan and his missus standing on the steps near the mixing desk downstairs. Didn't want to disturb so said nothing - he already had a couple of fan boys around him trying not to look bothered lol.

And in the same venue a few years later saw John Foxx at one of Numans gigs. I went up to him and said hello. He'd just started performing again so had a brief chat about how I'd enjoyed his recent comeback gig.

Not at a gig, but I was at the bar in a quiet Kidderminster pub way back in 1978 when Led Zeppelin's John Bonham came in , ordered a pint and sat right next to me on a tall bar stool.

Totally shocked and as a huge fan I plucked up the courage to say "Hello John"...

He picked his pint up, gulped it down in one, said "fk off" and walked out.

Real rock 'n roll stuff....biggrin
He's gotten a bit sweary over the years...

Plucking up courage I said "The beers on form tonight John"

He got up from his bar stool, drunk up in one gulp, said "Yes" and walked out.....yikes

Quite a few:

Steve 'Interesting' Davis on his own at a Lynryd Skynrd gig at Brixton Academy - was happy to stop for a chat
Simon Day from The Fast Show (Dave Angel Eco Warrior) at Manic Street Preachers at The Royal Albert Hall the other week
Carole Decker from T'Pau at The Wonderstuff a few months ago
Phil Jupitus at Billy Bragg at Hammersmith Apollo last year - happy to chat and do photos, gave me a badge!
Guy Garvey was in the box next to us for I Am Kloot at the Royal Festival Hall the other week, really quite refreshed but it was his 'Meltdown' festival so no surprises there
Jarvis Cocker at The End of The Road Festival looking cool even in a cagoule
Steve Lamacq can usually be found hanging out at the Festival Republic tent at Reading Festival, nice fella, always good for a chat

Oh, and Jeremy Clarkson told me to fk off when I asked him for a photo at Neil Young at Hammersmith Apollo, but I suppose to be fair to him it was the interval and we were the first two blokes out of our seats dashing for a slash!

Famous people? What, celebs? No thanks!

I'll go back a bit in time when 'gigs' didn't get plagued by celebs. Newbury Plaza in Oxfordshire (they didn't call them 'gigs' then, it was a concert - the group played the gig).

Jimi Hendrix.
Mind you he wasn't really in the crowd, he passed us as he went to get back on stage!

Saw him again in 1970. At the largest-ever concert gathering, never to be beaten, ever, in the UK.

A week or so later Hendrix was dead.

Was in the Grapes Pub, George St Oxford, also in the 60s one Sat evening, sat with mates near front windows. In came some famous blokes swanning about, one in long fur coat, giving themselves nurdles (work it out).
About an hour later they walked passed us to go on stage at the Town Hall.
Jeff Beck Group with one famous Scottish singer, recently knighted.

RHCP at Murrayfield many years ago we had Ben and OB from Hollyoaks standing behind us (Sorry - don't know their actor names) Had a news with them before the teengirl brigade clocked onto who they were and they had to move elsewhere in the crowd to try enjoy the show.

Alex Kapranos, front man of Franz Ferdinand stood alongside us watching Arctic Monkeys at Glasgow Barrowlands. Again it wasn't long until he was heckled by the crowd and decided to find a new viewing point. He's actually shorter than he looks on TV!

Only reason i ask is it's only happened to me once, 2001 at acdc gig at Milton Keynes bowl(few other bands on too). Kept looking round at this guy thinking he looked familiar, clocked him a few times and about the third time he looked right at me and nodded his head, to say yes, it's me! Lol, we both laughed at each other, it was Mike Rutherford from Genesis.Any other's spotted?
I see him on stage at MK Bowl, the 'Six Of The Best' show in 1982 to help recoup some money for WOMAD.
Next time I see them was at Wembley on the Invisible Touch tour in the mid 80s, horrible show in comparison to the MKB show, they really embraced that nasty 80s sound.

I bumped (well nearly) into Jacqui Abbott having a fag before her and Paul Heaton's Somerset House gig.

Clearly it didn't do her voice any harm!

M

PS To be fair I only recognised her because I'd seen them on the TV from their Glastonbury set a few days before!
