True, we do. I know I'll get more pedals since I've got the spare jacks on the Voodoo Lab power supply, but what I really mean is I finally have the tone I've wanted since I started playing. I think I was 14 when I first heard Steve Vai and I'd been playing for a year or two by then and another 14 or so years later I've got what I wanted all along. Ever since hearing him, his sound is what I wanted - not a carbon copy but singing leads that were not harsh and rich, wet distortion that still lets chords ring true etc. I've been through loads of kit which sounded good but never really hit the nail on the head. Now I'm there, not a duplicate of Vai's sound but my own tones meeting the criteria of sound I've wanted for so long.

If I was ever to upgrade, my only realistic upgrade path would be a Legacy III halfstack, which doesn't offer huge benefit over the Legacy I with a pedal setup. I tend to change amps a lot less than guitars, tbh as long as it still works I'll be playing this thing for years and years. I just cannot see a worthwhile swap - I've played tons of boutique amps and most of the high-end offerings from all the bigger names and they've never bested the Legacy to my ears. I can say hand on heart (Steve Vai pun!) that I will never sell this amp.

Now I've got a guitar I'd never sell, an Ibanez K-7 that I bought new years ago but my current main guitar, a Strandberg Boden OS7, is incredible and I love it but I couldn't honestly say I'd never sell it or swap my main player to something else. Aside from the K-7, the guitar stable has been much more active in terms of who is in and out of the squad over the years.

After searching for info on some of the pedals being mentioned on 'ere, I stumbled across this:-

The Neunaber Immerse

Go to 14:20 in the vid for one of the coolest effects I've ever heard. I need one of these, if only to mimic the keyboard intro to Shine On.......

My current set up is..

The whammy is on the blink so I need to work out if I replace it with a Mk5 or a ricochet.

Great when a plan comes together - sounds like you had a great shopping trip! I'm running a Voodoo Lab 4x4 great unit biggrin

Thanks, the order is.

Line 6 G50 wireless
TC polytune 2
Boss PW-3 compact wah
Thorpy FX peacekeeper (first shiny)
Thorpy FX gunshot (second shiny)
JHS Angry Charlie
Digitech Whammy 4 (which needs sorting)

It then goes to the Amp (Victory V40)

The effects loop then comes back into the TC flashback triple
Boss GE7 EQ
TC Spark Mini

Back to the amp

The board is a bit of board, the power is a Dunlop ISO brick which gives me 10 outputs with a few different options, although no AC out.

The Thorpy's replaced a boss SD-1 and a EH soulfood. Not sure what I'll do when the KoT arrives.

Cheers

D

Once I've finished with holiday this year, I'm straight back into board building. Current board consists of:

Boss DD7, Devi Ever Hyperion 1st issue, Dano CC Fuzz V1, Proco Turbo Rat and an m13. (Originally there was over 12 pedals on this board so it's been skimmed down a bit!)

Will be adding:

Klon KTR, Diamond Memory Lane, Whammy WH1 and a JOYO Pxl Live (first foray into loopers so don't want to fork out for gig rig in case we don't get along)

After that there's a long list of pedals to be skimmed down, and standard on a Whim ebay buys. Once I've settled on what gear I'm selling, I'm going to buy another Hiwatt (only had the Hi gain 100, but regret selling it for the clean tone) and A/B it with a Laney GH50. I do a lot of err, noisy music is the best way to describe it and pedals have always been a huge thing for me.

I've got a crybaby and a TS-808. I've been tempted to add in chorus, but I've never really found a use for it.

How else will you play the intro to "Come as you are" over and over and over again at guitar shops?

TBH, chorus for me goes one way or the other. Maxed out in conjunction with other effects, or in the case when i had the 6505+ head, a tiny amount with some additional reverb and E.Q to warm up the cleans. A small clone is a must have for the price you can get one.

I finally got round to putting together a proper pedal board this year, I ended up with a double row Pedaltrain one (can't remember the exact version) that fits about 12 pedals on it. The trouble is that I don't tend to use that many pedals at once, so it's a bit overkill (and maybe all those pedals chained together isn't good for the tone?).

I'm thinking instead to change to two smaller 'boards and perhaps have one rigged to go into the FX send/return loop (so things like my CE2 Chorus, PT909 Phaser, EHX Cathedral and some kind of delay pedal). Then set the other one up with my OD/distortion/fuzz/boost pedals to into the front end of the amp. Not sure if it'll be any better now apart from being easier to pack away two smaller boards when not in use, plus I'd need an extra power supply.

Maybe I should just stick to using them one at time as that's what I tend to do anyway...

An old pic of my set up - I will freely admit to having brought on 'a name' (or two). I think there is another one in there since the photo (can't remember and it's all currently in storage due to building work).

Gemini - great peddle, all the crunch you'll ever need in one box.
I've got on on my board along with the Bad Horsie Wah, twin spark and Big Sky.
That's all my board is at the moment, don't seem to need anything else on it for what i'm playing and with the switching options on the H&K Tubemeister i can get any sound i need.

I've gone a slight off the wall way to get my sounds.

Using both the full 2 channels of the laney amp (clean and drive ) for that class A goodness,
the Power only stage of the Laney, fed from the HD500x with cream sims and Fx,
then, the full on OD sound from the AFD-100 & two 4x12's
all controlled via a custom footswitch.
oh yeah and a Cry Baby smile

nearly forgot - the HD500x is also run into the PA via the stereo XLRs for acoustic work.

err no.
That would be like publicly admitting I had an addiction !

also, forgot to mention - I modified the laney to allow me to inject the HD500x into the cleanest part of the gain path in the PA stage.

(good job I'm an electronics engineer - I designed & built the footswitch too)
