Hey, so I'm looking for a new car. Since driving my boyfriends clio 182 last year I've wanted something similar. He got rid now but I still want something small and fun to drive.
What I won't budge on:
Under 8 seconds 0-60
Fairly small
Fun to drive
Hatchback

What I'd ideally like but not 100% required:
Higher build quality than the clio
Something a bit nicer looking than the clio and a nicer place to sit

All for under £4000.
My boyfriend suggested a twingo 133 but said it wouldn't be as fast as I'm wanting.
What else is there?
Thank you biggrin

If you can live with .6 of a second more to 60, I'd be going for a Swift Sport with your requirements, solid build quality, and tonnes of fun by all accounts.

Fiesta ST150?

Seems to fulfil all of that. I used to have one and with a couple of simple mods (S-Max throttle body etc.) you can make a decent amount of power.

Swift Sport? Ignis Sport? Yaris T Sport?

IMO none of them are as good looking and definitely not as quick as a Clio 182.

What about a Clio 197? I think they look much better than the 172/182's and a very similar drive. Driving position isn't great but they're alot of car and power for the money these days.

They are proper hot hatch whereas the rest are just warm hatches. If you think Twingo 133's aren't fast enough then nothing else will do and will just be a disappointment.

Any little 'warm / hot' hatch at that price level is going to be out of warrantee and full or potential problems unless you are very careful (or lucky). The obvious answer is the Mini, quality wise and performance an old Cooper would be just the ticket but there are far too many dogs out there and because they hold their value, you'll end up with a very old one at your price level.

Have you thought about leasing new. A Fiesta 1.0 (140 bhp) Ecoboost (0-60 in circa 9 seconds) would be a much better prospect at £170 per month than a 6 year-old Corsa SXi or similar. Also a little on the 'slow' side but certainly worth looking at is the 1.6 Suzuki Swift Sport, again some cracking lease deals available on those.

You appear to have forgotten to fill in the "fun to drive" section on autotrader, but thanks all the same! :P

Yupp plenty about for 4k. Just make sure they've been serviced on time (ideally by a Renault specialist) and the belts have been done aswell (definitely by a specialist).
