Evening all
Can anyone recommend a decent car hire firm in Crete? We have been a few times and have tried various car hire firms. Without exception they have been bad (ie old cars in poor/dangerous condition)
Flying to Heraklion and staying for a month.
Many thanks

My only advice would be stick to the bigger companies - Avis, Hertz, Budget, Europcar, Sixt.

We were in Crete 5-6 years ago and rented a small soft top car - I think it was a Fiat 500 or something similar - from Sunny Cars close to the airport and took the fully inclusive insurance. We picked up a small parking ding and although I had the fully inclusive insurance, I had to pay the excess to the rental station and then claim it back myself from their insurance company. Took about 6 months to get the money back - about EUR600 I think it was.

We were there a few months ago and rented a Jeep from here https://www.bestcars-rental.gr/

It was delivered to our hotel at the exact time we asked, collected from our hotel at the exact time we asked, was cheap as chips and clean and reliable with no hidden costs at all.

Nope, just a Jimny as we hadn't planned on using it too much, which then went completely out of the window as we did 1500kms in 6 days. laugh

Well, I can tell you that the Jimny has very hard front wings, as two blokes found out when they jumped out in front of us from behind some bushes in the middle of nowhere. biggrin

I'm going to Crete for 10 days next month, looking at hire cars today best rates i have found (from the top 4 companies) is with Sixt, booking direct through there Greek website! (about 150 quid cheaper than the UK one)
https://www.sixt.gr I'm going for a Renault Twingo as we aren't going to be doing too much driving.

General consensus seems to be avoid the el cheapo rent a car firms.

Thanks for the replies. Consensus seems to be stick with the larger firms. Will give them a try and definitely get the full collision damage waiver...
