My Worcester Bosch bit them! So they are out for revenge!

They gave me a comedy Homecare policy renewal quote 2yrs ago so went elsewhere. However they gave me a quote half the previous renewal this year so I went back with them again...and then the DHW heat exchanger clogged. Big job but they fixed it and then noted that despite the fact I have a magnetite filter in circuit that it needs a Powerflush costing half the cost of a new boiler! Its a one man one day job right - rig a powerful pump in place of the circulation pump and flush? (no details at all of process/additives/process etc on the quote - never a good idea that...)

There is nothing implied in the quote that they wont continue to cover the system if not done but the engineer did grumble such mutterings.

I will likely get it done by a far more reasonable local heating engineer, but any advice welcome here.

thx

Well, where are you and how many rads in the house?

Vaguely remember paying more than that for a flat in central London. If you live in a small flat it's expensive if you live in a 10 bedroom mansion it's cheap....

But yes, BG usually are silly money

I had a full power flush on a 2 bed flat done by my indie boiler chap for around £300. 6 radiators I think. Seemed ok value

That seems more like it and what I thought it should cost - Brit Gas is a big machine to feed plus their shareholders want a divvy!

Could be worse:

EDIT: We had the quote at the same time we had an expensive (to BG) fixed price boiler repair (new heat exchanger, boiler fan, pump, boiler fascia, and clearing of blocked pipe - £99 fixed price repair).

IIRC there was some form of guarantee regarding the PF as long as Homecare was maintained - I didn't absorb the details.

Also, IIRC there's some cover for any burst/leaking pipes which result from the PF.

Ours really needs flushing - but not happy to pay £1k for it.

Ouch!

Do they remove the rads on a powerflush to tip any sludge out and is this why they count the rads? As I said zero detail on what they actually do on quote despite the several pages of writing!

Not sure, but when I have the time I'll try adding some cleaner additive, draining down and removing and flushing my rads with a hose. There's loads of other changes/fixes that need doing at the same time.
