Hi all,

I have a PS3 and a PS4 but recently I have started picking up more of the older less played and positively reviewed PS3 games. Ones that most people probably missed for one reason or other.

I'm not sitting here thinking that one day I will look back and see this as a wise investment as reality seems to show that you pickup up a 2nd hand PS3 and a reasonable games bundle for not much more than £100 and it is easy to spend that amount collecting a few old games but I just want to capture some of the quality games and keep them together with the system that plays them.

Some recent PS3 finds:

Demons Souls Black Phantom Ltd Edition
Folklore - seems like a cool quirky rpg that got great write ups
Vanquish - a bit like gears of war (I am told..) and I am really enjoying it
Valkyria Chronicles - I was told I didn't need the Ps4 version to enjoy this game so picked it up
Darksiders 2
Binary Domain
Neir - RPG that supposedly has a story that grows on you

I am looking for a limited edition copy of Dark Souls and maybe Dark Souls 2 if anyone has one.

Is anyone doing anything similar or has any other game recommendations that would be good to keep with the system?

Cheers,
Steven RW

Ni No Kuni and the Ico/Shadow of Colossus double set will be worth something in the future. They're also great games.

 I have both of those. I played a good bit of ICO. Great change of pace compared to some of the titles I had just been playing (think it was Bloodborne I completed before moving to ICO). Shadow of the Colossus also gets a great write up but I haven't tried it yet.

Ni no Kuni, I haven't played this yet but some people would say favourite game.

Interesting when you see people selling games bundles. Several versions of Fifa and several versions of COD seem to be the most common with a lump of Assassins Creed and Uncharted thrown in. Some of the great games just don't seem to appear very often.

Metal Gear Solid is a good shout.

Probably one of my all time favourites was Portal 2

I enjoy alot of driving games, the ones I spent most hours on were Burnout Paradise and Driver: San Francisco. The latter being pleasantly surprised with after mocking the details revealed in the previews, had to eat my words as it worked very well with the story.

Same boat as you op. Recently picked up a ps3 slim as I wasn't getting much use out of my ps4 and deeply regretted selling my old ps3 slim when the ps4 came out.

I've just played through uncharted 1 for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it, I've put in about 4 hours into uncharted 2 so far and it's equally as enjoyable.

I've also got infamous 1 and 2, gran turismo 6, tekken hybrid, portal 2, red dead redemption game of the year edition and a whole bunch of other games for it, think I'm up to 25 physical games so far. Then there's all the digital stuff I've accumulated over the years of being a ps plus member, xcom, puppeteer, little big planet karting, etc.

I plan to grab 3d dot game heroes at some point as I've heard great things about it.

It's a brilliant console with a strong line up of games, I recommend googling ps3 hidden gems, you'll find a few titles worth picking up.

Thanks for the post. I happened to get uncharted Nathan drake collection for the Ps4 the other day during one of my second hand searches, having never done much with that series before. Part 1 was a great game and a good entry into this series. I started part 2 (I had tried it ages ago but for some reason never dug in enough to get the game going properly) and really enjoyed completing it. Expect you will too. It is a nice progression from 1. I'm holding off and giving myself a break before heading on to part 3. By then part 4 on ps4 should be more affordable :-)

I have watched every youtube video I can see re: good PS3 games, but thanks for recommendation. I'll take some of them forward. Thanks (to everyone). Metal Gear Solid sounds like a plan (any particular versions?)

For reference my current collection:

1. Brutal Legend (yet to start)
2. Oblivion (only got so far..)
3. Skyrim (....ate my life. Loved every moment of the two full play throughs and 400+ hours in total)
4. Mass Effect 2 (about a 1/3 through the main campaign)
5. Borderlands (completed this and then part 2 on ps4)
6. Enslaved (completed this and enjoyed it)
7. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus (part way through ICO not tried Shadow yet)
8. Sleeping Dogs (about half way through main campaign)
9. Nier (about 20% through I'd wager)
10. Valkyria Chronicles (yet to start)
11. Batman Arkham Asylum (yet to start)
12. Batman Arkham City (yet to start)
13. Ni No Kuni (yet to start)
14. Xcom (put a lot of time in but never completed it)
15. Demons Souls (about a 1/3 through)
16. Dark Souls prepare to die edition (completed everything bar the last boss fight. I hadn't perfected parry so failed over and over and retired for now)
17. Dark Souls 2 (completed on Scholars of the first sin version on Ps4 at NG and NG+, so never played Ps3 version)
18. Reckoning (great game. Leisurely more cartoon like version of Skyrim ish)
19. Dishonored (bought PS3 version but happened on a copy for PS4 and completed that)
20. Vanquish (about 50% through I'd guess and playing this one ATM)
21. Folklore (still in sealed packet as haven't had it long).

Thanks
Steven RW

Best advice I can give is wack a 1TB hard drive in and get signed up to playstation plus and get some classics from a few years back for free every month. Before you know it you'll have some great titles! I got Borderlands 2, Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite, Dead Nation, Metro 2033 through it and many more though I'm yet to play them as I'm busy with other games at the moment.

Keep an eye on the playstation sales as well, at the moment you've got the big in Japan sale on:

https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2016/06/29/playsta...

In some cases if your happy buying digital you've got some stonking bargains to be had.

Soul Calibur V for £5.49 & Dynasty Warriors 8 for £10.99 are some of the highlights for me!

Hi Alfaben

Thanks for the reply. I am already a member of the psn+ and I do download games as they come up. What I will say is that I prefer a physical copy of a game any day of the week. It is something to do with the idea of being a collector :-).

I took your suggestion and picked up a copy of Dynasty Warriors 8 from CEX at lunchtime today for £8. I haven't played any of them before so will be giving it a go.

I have played, probably, the first Soul Calibur way back in the day and enjoyed it. CEX didn't have a copy at the time but I will see where else I can get one from.

Cheers and long live the old Ps3. I completed Vanquish last night. Great game. If people haven't played it, I'd suggest it is easily worth of a 2nd hand purchase.

Cheers!

Dynasty Warriors 8: Now there is a strange type of game. I got through the tutorial and then started the first mission as Wei. I was supposed to run away out of some compound/castle. I managed for a while and then "big boss guy" flattened me. I'm not yet getting the full appeal of this game (IE when I died I didn't feel the want to restart..and just called it a night) but will give it another go. What is the appeal for you with this one?

Cheers,
