But school meals are free for kids whose parents are on benefits and/or are low paid. Nevertheless this sounds like some kind of bizarre and ott debt collection scheme - humiliating a child because of the actions of their parents is a bit fked up.

I'm a pretty hard line capitalist on most things but that is stty.

Can't they just sell the debt to a collection agency or something? So that they can be hounded out of their homes by vicious thus instead?)

Teaches the kids a good lesson. Don't get into debt you can't pay.

....otherwise someone else might get punished for your actions!

Great lesson.

I'd be inclined to take such a letter and insert it where a proctologist would be required to retrieve it from the headmaster..........

We had similar at kids tuck shop.

The same kids never had any money, first week you might take a view second week you might make a note, third week when they are picking handfuls of sweets you say no.

Detention is hardly the end of the world, and it inconveniences the parents as well which might make them think / pay.

Lunch isolation would only be embarrassing at lunch time, they should be made to wear a permanent mark of shame

They should send the kids fingers to the parent one by one, they'll soon pay up.

I'd be giving my kid permission to leave school at lunch and go buy some chips hehe

Buy chips with what? You'd be one of the parents who doesn't send their kids to school with money to pay for lunch.

Do they not get free food if they can't afford to buy it?

Reading some of the deputy head's blog posts, it sounds like a "special" school. Silent corridors between classes, walking single file, sitting in a teacher-designed seating plan during lunch? fk that.

Would it not be better to stop parents going into negative by going back to the more "traditional" pay as you go method.

Ie child takes money with them to buy lunch.

No money, no lunch??

If a parent cannot afford to feed their child, they are not fit to be parents surely, and social services should be involved?

Well yes, you have a point. It does seem odd that people would get behind on paying for food for their kids at school!
