Can't beat that choice. I remember watching it at the time, and thinking that so many of the acts gave such half-hearted performances - they wanted to be there, for the publicity and going through the motions of appearing charitable, but it seemed like they didn't really care.

Bowie was very good, but it was Queen over and above anyone else. I think it was their professional pride which did it - they could only appear in public if they did so 100% cvommitted. They were always like that.

To think that Geldof and his band were the headliners!

I recall from the recent Live Aid documentary that there was some indecision over whether to include Queen as they were not that popular at the time, and the gist of it was that their Live Aid performance helped to re-start their career because it was so good. Or maybe it was one of the recent Queen documentaries.

Read the thread title and was coming in to post this. I've watched the performance so many times and every time it gets the hairs on my arm standing up.

To those that were able to see Queen live, I was too young and unfortunately I only have videos to watch... I can hardly put into words the sense of jealousy I have for you guys.

I've been to many concerts in my time but I don't think I'll be sitting in 30 years time reminiscing about them. If I could travel back in time.....

I'm sure it's horribly uncool to admit this but the best big stage performance I've ever seen was Take That, maybe it was because I was dragged there and wanted to hate it. It was their more recent tour when they were talking to Robbie again and he did some solo stuff and joined them. Incredible work load and great stage work. From your link I actually prefer Come Undone but I've always liked the stuff from Robbie that didn't sell as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KInsf5scgPA&sp...

The best I've ever seen was a tiny concert held locally with about 400 people, it was Mumford and Sons doing a small tour before they went to America. The sad thing is that I know it'll never be bettered.

I too was there. Sublime performance.

More recently, U2's Innocence & Experience show at the O2 was pretty good, if not quite as good musically.

I know this won't be "the greatest ever", I thought people might quite like it anyhow.

Christine and the queens (fabulous band), and Nile Rogers funking away as he does best.

As much as I'm not a mega fan I can imagine most of the Queen shows would have been bloody epic.

Have seen AC/DC a few times and they're certainly up there from a live perspective. Brian Johnson is the era I've seen and the likes of Back in Black or Thunderstruck are incredible live.

I'm mainly a metal fan so the likes of Iron Maiden and Metallica are two of the best heavy bands I've seen live. Rage Against the Machine were bloody impressive too.

While it's true that the live aid performance of radio Ga Ga did make everyone else look ordinary- ISTR that there were some stories about them breaking the agreed sound levels? I can still only rate them as 3rd.

Because for 2nd it has to be "the best birthday party we've been to, thanks for having us":
