..................................................................................................

So new 'tallica! The first song is very thrashy, short and sweet. Vocals fit the song but seem a bit uninspired, lyrics I'm not convinced by... but it all works for a thrash song. Cover art isn't the greatest! So in standard form it is a double album... although apparently comes in under 80 minutes so I'm not sure why.

Anyway I'm very excited to hear what the rest of the album sounds like now!

I'm a huge Metallica fan but thought the new track sounded like something they'd cut from Death Magnetic.

It took me a couple of listens but it's a grower. Not amazing but 7/10 or so. If a song makes me pick up a guitar and start learning then it can't be bad.

This..... will need a couple more listenings - don't seem to be able to find much "content" on the first.

That was dire. Bland thrash-by-numbers song, the vocals and guitars are laughably weak sounding and the drum sounds are clicky, thin and awful. But we forgave these sins on "And Justive For All", because the songs were belters, but in this instance it's just terrible. The lyrics are st too. Is this really a lead single? Wow.

Not a fan... and I liked the last album. Sounds like an outsider's interpretation of thrash. Which is sad given the history.

Maybe time they enjoyed retirement.

Nowt wrong with that! First time i've listened to Metallica in years, it has a whiff of 'Battery' about it - which is good! smile

Bit better - more content than the first one. Still not anything I'd want to pick up my guitar and learn.

I was looking to put up a Metallica post and spotted this thread.

I'm very excited about this new album. I've followed them since their self titled album and am a huge fan of their classic albums but I did love Load and Re-Load along with the others. Death Magnetic was solid enough but didn't quite get that something that their classic albums have.

This new material on the other hand seems to be very good. Moth Into Flame is awesome. Let's hope the rest of the album is as good.

Loving Moth into flame, much more like it. Hardwired was fairly forgettable.
Looking forward to the new album, be interesting to see if they tour the UK or if they just play a festival or two next year.

Apparently Hardwired was written fairly late as they felt they needed something short and to the point to open the album with. So I guess the rest of the album will be more along the lines of Moth Into Flame.

Fingers crossed, Moth into Flame has that groove that I liked from their 90s work but is also pleasingly heavy.

As much as we all loved their early stuff and Master of Puppets is epic, if they just tried to re-hash that style it would be a bit of a sell out. I know they've missed the mark with trying to be different in the likes of St. Anger but I admire that they don't just copy their old style.

Only just got around to listening to both of the songs and personally think they're gash. I don't understand why it's so hard for them to write decent music anymore when other greats can. I know Lars can't double kick like he used to (part of the reason I won't see them live) but it shouldn't be this hard, maybe it was all the drugs and drink that made their writing great? Testament's new offering on the other hand is so much better, same as the last time both bands released an album.

Album is out tomorrow officially. Leaked a few days ago. I haven't listened to it though.

They have also been releasing a video every 2 hours since last night. Every song on the album has had a video made for it... which reflects the way music is being consumed these days!

The song's I have listened to sound really good so far. But I need to listen with my headphones tomorrow.

There's a lot of hype for the closing track "Spit Out The Bone". So looking forward to that

Oh - it's GOOOOOOOD!! Thank goodness the first 2 tracks they pre-released seem to be the not so good ones - the rest have got me nodding!

My physical copy of the deluxe edition was on the door mat when I got in from work. Happy days!

Just on Atlas, Rise! now. Enjoying it immensely so far.

edit - Finished listening to it. Really enjoyed it. A few tracks will require further listening to sink in (bit like Hardwired) but so far I thought Hardwired, Atlas, Rise!, Moth Into Flame, Dream No More (potential favourite on the album), Halo On Fire, Confusion, Am I Savage? and Spit Out The Bone were the best. I really like Dream No More.
