Oh god.

It's so much better than expected.

Best album since Reload.

Concert live stream on right now from House of Vans in London!

Mixture of old and new. Awesome.

I've given this a few spins now, keeps getting better. Really solid album. Probably top 5 of the Metallica albums for me.

They just haven't done anything 'good' for me since Master of Puppets. Great to see them still around but they're struggling. Pains me to see/say it

Not going to say it's bad but far less engaging than Death Magnetic IMO.
It would have been ok that most guitar riffs sound like they are 30 years old if the whole thing was not let down by that simply horrible cheesy way of singing Hetfield has been making my ears bleed with since Load, for instance in songs like Dream no More. Or maybe he is just trying to plagiarize Ozzy Osbourne, but he is really bad at this.
Hammett's lead parts are ALL abysmal. You can feel he has not contributed to the writing at all and was merely asked to fill up with the most uninspired Em pentatonic scale solos (if we can even call these proper solos) he has ever put out.

Confusion is the only song I keep coming back to thanks to its groovy main riff, but most songs are unneccesarily too long IMO. That will probably please newcomers to the band with relatively Metal-virgin ears but maybe not older farts.

Oh well, it will probably end up in the car.

It's easier to connect with than Death Magnetic as that was an album that needed a few listens, Hard Wired has some instant gratification as well as some tracks that will take a few listens.

Overall I'm impressed, it has a real mix of all their sounds. I've followed them since since their self titled album and between then and Load collected all their previous albums. Their stuff was a huge part of growing up so I'm glad they're showing what they're made of with this album.

Given this a few listens now, and thinking that disc 1 is better overall than disc 2, with Now That We're Dead becoming a favourite along with Moth into Flame.

Just glad it's nothing like St. Anger!

Liking a lot of what I've heard so far on Metallica's Youtube channel, on to the Christmas list it goes!
