Nirvana, In Utero is a good example. Lots of Mics set up "Around" the drumset and the room as opposed to directly sticking on Mics. Obviously, Grohl is a Mammoth hitter and Albini had a big room, but its a great example of how the drum sounds in the room as opposed to just how the drum set sounds. We've recorded drums in a Warehouse before and that sounded great!
Sounds like you've been doing this a while, any info on your band?

In fact I know the biggest room is better, I was wondering what sort of sound I could get in the booth which is fairly dead. Only one way to find out I suppose!

Not as long as it probably sounds! I'm only 25, but have been interested in recording since I was around 13? Sound production was in the course i studied at college too. The old band I was in which I've referenced the recording in here is where we done the most recording - from a paper printing factory, to a shed and finally in a proper studio. Some of the stuff is still on FB here: https://www.facebook.com/UKescapeartists/app/17809...

Let us hear the results, part of the fun of recording is using what you have available and making the most of it!
