Shamelessly pinching this from TeamRock...

How many bands can we name that released only one brilliant studio album?

Rules -
1: Only bands who made one, and only one, studio album during their lifetime count.
2: One-off solo albums by established musicians count, as do albums by supergroups.
3: Live albums, however, don’t count.
4: Nor do posthumous records, remix albums or compilations.

I'll open with '90s brit rockers Honeycrack. Such a shame they never got chance to make a followup.

I was going to say Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Great album and I thought that was it..but no! They did another album in 1986 called Liverpool (According to Wikipedia) But without Holly Johnson. So maybe it does count?

Actually Johnson did sing on the album, so Wikipedia says. I'm amazed they only released two albums

Quite a lot of 'supergroups' - or collections of well known musicians

Blind Faith
Green Bullfrog
Coverdale Page
Rock Candy Funk Party (only one studio album)

Then there are single solo albums

Phil Lynott
Each of Members of Kiss, though Ace Frehley did later albums.

Dark Star - Twenty Twenty Sound

Levitation - Need for Not (Coterie was two EPs and a single combined for CD convenience)

can I have?
Propaganda - Secret Wish (given Wishful Thinking was a remix album and 1234 was by a completely different line up)

Great band. I went to see CJ twice at the start of this year, both excellent gigs.

Another one from me; can't believe I overlooked this; it's exquisite.

Mark Hollis - Mark Hollis.

For the youngsters, Mark Hollis was the lead singer of the genuinely enigmatic Talk Talk, who started off with shiney electro-pop and ended up deconstructing song form, by degrees, over five albums in nine years. Their 1986 Live in Montreaux concert (you tube is your friend) is amazing.

The solo album dates from about 1998, and that's pretty much it; he quit, having achieved all he wanted to; no compromises.

Good spot!

I cannot remember his PH handle, but he was the lead guitar.
