Flowered up : A life with Brian.

A great band and a great album from a great time.
I saw them live, apparently! I don't remember a thing.........

Another one from me; can't believe I overlooked this; it's exquisite.

Mark Hollis - Mark Hollis.

For the youngsters, Mark Hollis was the lead singer of the genuinely enigmatic Talk Talk, who started off with shiney electro-pop and ended up deconstructing song form, by degrees, over five albums in nine years. Their 1986 Live in Montreaux concert (you tube is your friend) is amazing.

The solo album dates from about 1998, and that's pretty much it; he quit, having achieved all he wanted to; no compromises.
Good shout - doesn't sound dated.

No so sure about brilliant but I thought of a few

Damageplan - New Found Power
Incarnia - Proclamation, not that standout in melodic death metal, but this seems to be reasonably well regarded album

4 Non Blonds - Bigger Better Faster More.

It went platinum in the USA and got to No 1 on album charts all over the world. They started a second album but it was never finished.

This does have rather a famous artist behind it though! And is listed in his albums released!

...my immediate thought was this one - seems to be within the OP's rules too.

Minor Threat! Seems mad that a band so influential in the hardcore punk scene only had one album.

Roy World - Man in the Machine.

I bought the album after hearing one of their songs on the radio and nothing ever since.

Arguably Haircut 100 and Pelican West. Follow-up album was without Nick Heyward and never charted. Neither did any of the singles off it.

The Las is a great shout, love that album.

I would add -

The Postal Service - Give Up (effectively a 'supergroup' but only one great album)

My Vitriol - Finelines (bit of a cult album for me from the early '00s. Still around I think but not doing a lot!)

Airhead - Boing!

Released in the early 90s and had a couple of singles released from the album that got a bit of airplay.
I bought the album and it was quite good, guitar-driven pop.

That was a great album. I got into them via a snowboarding video of all things.
