Original Vinyl prices seem to have taken off, I've just been offered a ridiculous amount of money for a First Press Led Zeppelin album,

Has anyone sent vinyl through the post in a cardboard LP sleeve or know which are the best ones to purchase,

Thanks

Try getting cruciform mailer/s off Ebay, with some stiffeners. Often worthwhile putting the vinyl outside the sleeve (in it's inner) when sending it so that it's doesn't split the sleeve in transit

PS. If you've been offered decent money...has the buyer seen pictures of it yet? Just asking in case they know it's the first issue with different title colours etc but are then nit-picking about condition etc

Thanks for the tips, always hate sending anything fragile or expensive in the post having worked for the post office over a Christmas period when a student many moons ago. It became a challenge for some to break any item marked fragile.

I've sold a few LPs and 12" discs in the past and have used pizza boxes to package them in. They're the perfect size and you can pick up pizza boxes on ebay for a few quid if you don't want to use one already smelling of garlic!.

I remember my mother owned a grocers locally about 30 years ago,and tbere was a guy used to come in giving her records to sell.
I swear to got every single piece of vinyl he brought in was coloured or a weird shape.I remember a brown oblong one in a Yorkie bar Lp cover,an orange star shaped one, countless picture discs etc.The lot would have been worth a fortune now i reckon.
I kept one that always appealed to me,picture disc of abbey road, wish i'd kept the lot, they were all thrown out when the shop went tits up.

I guess part of the reason is that new vinyl is so incredibly expensive...

I've got a couple of Mono Beatles LPs I bought in a charity shop for £1.50 each about 20 years ago.

I've no idea what they're worth now, but I had a feeling at the time that original vinyl might be valuable sometime...

M.

PS ETA, well not THAT much, but more than £1.50... Also, were the White Album or Sgt Peppers REALLY ever released in Mono? Some are listed as such on eBay... EATA - Seems so! biggrin

I had a Hendrix first press that jumped, my mate who is a Vinyl nut said he would have a look, he had it a few days then gave it me back and what a difference, he said it was just crap and gave it a good clean and it now sound fantastic with no jumping.

Well worth keeping them clean and dust free as it makes such a difference.

He also played a analog studio recorded vinyl back to back with a downloaded digital version, the difference in sound is amazing, the vinyl sounds so much better and you hear so much more that is missing on the digital downloaded version.

Yes I have some like that. I think it's just that the vinyl record was mastered better. Apparently you can't be such a nob with the levels like you can when mastering a CD (because it causes the needle to jump).

Cd don't sound that bad its the downloaded stuff, I think they must compress it because it sounds rubbish compared to a hard copy,

Still you can't beat Vinyl that was recorded on analog equipment, he played me some Lenny Kravitz that was all recorded on 70s analog equipment, it sounded epic on vinyl.
