I used to love The Skids till I met Richard Jobson in person in the early 80s. He comes across as a decent guy on telly nowadays but he wasn't when I met him.
I think he has admitted to being an ahole in those days.Tom_C76 said:

Walter Becker and Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, heard they were a couple of prize sts, and it was a Steely Dan fan who I heard it from.
Donald Fagen is known to be an absolute nightmare to work with. He'll sack you 10 bars into the first tune if he think's you aren't cutting it.He still remains one of the finest living composers of contemporary music IMHO. One of the reasons he's written such unique music is that he knows exactly what he wants.
I'd st myself if I ever had to work with him mind.
I've heard a couple of choice stories about Steve Gadd too (from engineers working on sessions with him). Not a bloke to annoy by not recording EVERY TIME he's playing!

From a couple of drummer friends who've met him he's apparently a top bloke, but I guess it's a different setting to being an engineer with him.PurpleTurtle said:

Miles Hunt from The Wonderstuff. Terrible band, terrible person.
This summer just gone my brother-in-law stage managed a local festival where Miles and Erica Nockalls were early on the bill.As Miles arrived my B-i-L, himself a musician on the same bill, goes to chew the fat with him but was brusquely replied to with '"yeah yeah, let's just get on with it". B-i-L thinks "jeez, stroppy tt" and contemplates going home and burning his Wonderstuff collection.
As soon as he comes off stage, "Sorry about that mate, despite all the years I'm always a bit nervous about going on, and we were cutting it fine for our slot. What were you gonna say?. Cue half an hours chat about bands in the 90s over a beer and both parting on amicable terms.
Maybe you just caught him on a bad day too?

Aja title track. Did the first take it, well at least he thought was. Tapes weren't rolling. 2nd take is the one on the record. "When I say rollin I mean rolling" said S Gadd.He is quite good though!

If their recent live shows are representative then Steely Dan have compromised their high standards.
I never got the hype. The whole 'pop music for musicians' tag that defined them doesn't mean that the music itself would be a great and it wasn't. They were obviously very particular and musically, it's all very tight and arranged and but the melodies aren't great. Interesting to see Al Di Meola mentioned on the front page. I wouldn't say he was a dhead but I'll admit he doesn't interview well. He has a high opinion of himself and rightly so, but perhaps lacks humility on occasion. I watched an instructional tape that he made back in the day (I think it was REH), and boy was it dry. It's not that he seems disinterested on camera, rather that he has an assured yet reserved manner that cones across as slightly aloof at times.
The funny thing I remember from that REH tape was Al talking about his right hand technique, and how he always tried to alt-pick wherever he can. He demonstrates an almost classical rigidity to technique, going as far as to say he decided early on that hammering on and pulling off (essentially any conventional left hand legato technique) was just a lazy dead end in the pursuit of musical expression, which prompted him to develop his super fast, super clean right hand, the end result of which is that his playing often sounds rather one dimensional. Whenever Al played in the Guitar Trio, you always knew he was on because his lines always sound the same. A monster talent no less, but he has rather pigeonholed himself into certain tonalities and patterns.

Gregg Allman, I don't think he's really a st per se, but way back he did a stty thing when, caught in possession of some marching powder, ratted out his roadie to avoid a custodial sentence. Said roadie went to the slammer instead, and the Allman Brothers Band broke up over the head of it (although they were heading that way anyway).
I have personal third hand experience that the following are complete ****s.
Chrissy Hynde - Utter diva.
Paul Weller - Spilled my pint on his way to the stage to join Noel Gallagher.
Lars Ulrich - Had a fight with my mate (drummer in Tokyo Blade).
Courtney Love & Evan Dando - Shagging a couple of weeks after Kurt Cobain's suicide.
Bill Bailey (well he does do some songs) - Total Chrissy Hynde

Francis Rossi for turning a great 70's boogie band into a cabaret act.
If anyone should doubt how awesome Francis Rossi and Quo could be in the early 70s:https://youtu.be/OBSDoMgjqG0
