Advice on accessories required with electric guitar.

If he wants a mic and stand to record his guitar into his laptop or iPad, a mic infront of the amp would be the usual way of doing it.
However, using an amp like the Yamaha THR you stick a USB cable into the amp and the laptop, then use a program to record stuff.
If that's what he was thinking. He could be planning some kind of nu-deathmetal type of screaming where he sounds like he's puking though. Perhaps worth checking what the mic and stand are actually for?

Yes, having quizzed the little chap, it appears he is trying to recreate Abbey Road in our house.
So he can use a mic through his bass amp for now then? What reasonably-priced mic and stand do you suggest?

His brother has a full drum kit in the sitting room.
I have a Mexican strat (HSS) and it plays great from the box (according to my mate who is a far, far better player than the noise polluter I am) 
Strats can be a pain if you want to change tunings. But if you plan on using a constant tuning they are great.
You could get a keyboard/PA amp (I have a Peavey KB something for my drums). They have full range speakers and often have mic inputs.
You would probably need a multi effects unit to run the guitar through. Sacrifice some tone for flexibility.

Only if its set up with a floating trem, same with any guitar with a floating trem, Gibson are pretty unstable on the G as is so they will be more temperamental.Edited by conkerman on Thursday 8th December 12:11
If its set up non floating its about as solid as they come!!
13mm I have a Zoom GU2.1 - doesn't have a power supple but you can basically have it for the postage if you want

Guys
I bought the Strat this afternoon and a Fender Champ 20 amp. plus mic, stand, guitar stand etc etc.
The guitar was an incentive for him to pass his grade 1 acoustic exam and we've just found out in the past 20 minutes that he got a merit. So the timing was perfect.
Thank you all for your advice, it was greatly appreciated.
