Another one notched up for 2016.

It's only a few months since we lost Keith Emerson. Carl Palmer must be a bit nervous at the moment.

RIP

All gone now except Palmer but he is the youngest (66).

Drummers tend to be quite fit, he's younger, so don't see why he should be nervous.

Then again, I remember the spin-off, one-off group too, Emerson, Lake and Powell (Cozy Powell - he died at just 50 - but that was a car accident).

Edit to add
Greg's 'I Believe in Father Christmas' was No 2 in 1975.
I hope they re-release it now if only to prevent Cruz Beckham playing on the airwaves over Xmas. And perhaps Lake will get the no. 1 he deserved. Bearing in mind charts today are not quite the same as they were.

Also remember reading why he and Sinfield wrote 'I Believe In Father Christmas', it was because how he felt Christmas had deteriorated and in danger of becoming yet another victim of crass corporate financial exploitation.

He was right there!

"I believe in Father Christmas" is one of my fave tunes at this time of year. It will seem all the more poignant now.

ELP were the band that drew me away from everyday pop music and into Prog in the early 70's. Sad news, first Kieth and now Greg. RIP frown

Fkuc the neighbours - I'm away to dig some old vinyl out.

Be appropriate for it to be re-released and makes No. 1 this time (beaten last time by Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody in 75).

Someone has just said Lennon died 36 years ago today.
Time?
Where the hell does it go.

.
Good idea. We'd have to hope that neither Shakin Stevens nor Cliff Richard die imminently though.

I remember being struck by the lyrics on Works - especially tracks like "Hallowed Be Thy Name" and "C'est La Vie" - as well as Lake's delivery

Off to listen to In The Court Of The Crimson King for the third time today......

Greg Lake passing has hit me too, 'I believe in Father Christmas' is one of my all time favourite songs not just Christmas time, the first time I heard it ias a child the mid 70's I was overwhelmed and captivated by this beautiful song, the amazing voice, words, guitar and the magnificent orchestra crescendo.

Then a few years later my Uncle continuously played The Works album especially the Lake songs, Lend your Love To Me, Cest La Vie and Closer To Believing are still never far away from my thoughts and the visual of Greg with his guitar and amazing smile within the album sleave.
My Uncle died of Cancer this year and left me The Works album in his will, now Greg Lake passing is beyond words.

RIP

Bloody hell. 2016 - a year that will be remembered by a certain generation for the loss of many of their heroes. The video of Emerson, Lake and Palmer playing Fanfare For The Common Man in the Montreal Stadium made me want to learn bass guitar - such an amazing sound, and as a young lad in my early teens they just looked so damned cool (well, it was snowing!).

Just yesterday I was revisiting some videos by my other bass hero, Chris Squire, and found this lovely little snippet of Greg Lake talking about Chris...

So strange to hear Greg has passed away today after watching that 24 hours ago.

RIP Greg. Wonderful music, and a great inspiration.

So sad that we seem to be coming to the end of an era of virtuoso musicians. Prog has always had its critics but they can't take it away from these guys, they are true masters of their instruments.

RIP Greg
