Now don't get me wrong I do like 6 music and it's ability to bring me music I've not heard before. But they do have their favorites and some of them to me are inexplicable.

I put it to you that both Kate Tempest and Sleaford Mods are utter garbage, on a scale of the emperor's new clothes.

I just don't get it. That is all.

I don't listen to 6 music much so googled those 2 bands out of interest, really not to my taste.

Haven't really been listening to 6 music since Christmas (for no particular reason), but those two were played a lot before Christmas.

Kate Tempest (rymey, rap, poetry woman), not to sure about her, I quite like that her 'music' is a break form the norm, but I would never buy it or even sit down and listen to a whole album of it if someone gifted it to me.

Sleaford Mods, yep I thought they were totally scensoredt. They were played over the summer from some festival or live type thing, and they were totally scensoredt, then TCR was played constantly and it was totally scensoredt, then about December time I started to really like TCR nuts

Now I think TCR's great confused

Sleaford Mods not for a lot of (powerfully built directors) PH'ers. There's a lot going on in the lyrics, but it's probably to raw for some. The early stuff which samples the Sex Pistols on tracks such as Trixie and Chop Chop Chop is even better.

Another 6 music fan here but I'd say any band/artist signed to "Bella Union" records. Hear that all the time..."here is (insert name here) with their new single on Bella Union". Mildly gets on my wick but on the whole it's a good listen.

With those two acts, I agree entirely. I generally think that something I don't like is just not my cup of tea, but with Sleaford Mods in particular, I really struggle to see any merit in it. To me they sound like a couple of 14 year olds still learning to play and writing lyrics to impress 13 year olds. I'm not their target listener I'm sure, but they're about the same age as me!

Isn't this the appeal of 6?

Listen to some tunes, never heard before, but sound great...

Same here - I really enjoy them now. In a major way.

BHS is great as well and I am looking forward to the new album like nothing else for years.

People actually pay to listen to st like this?

Then again, people will pay to go to a live concert featuring works by Arnold Schoenberg :shrugs:

Each to their own. Personally I listen to nothing else on the radio. They have introduced me to bands and music I would never of heard about, some I like, some I don't. They've educated and entertained (gush, gush, gush) and there are no bloody adverts.

I think 6 Music is great. I also think the Sleaford Mods are a truly great punk band. Jason Williamson's an original and there aren't many of those and the guy just standing holding the beer and nodding along - it's genius.

So I just heard Sleaford Mods again with their new smash hit, Messy Anywhere. What the actual fk. What am I missing. It's absolute fking bontempi garbage accompanied by bullst lyrics sung completely out of tune.

I realise I've been wholly negative so I will add some positivity - it's been an absolute pleasure to listen to Katie Puckrik's creamy caramel tones oozing out of the wireless. Could listen to her 'toons' all day long.

Katie Puckrik? She was replacing Mark and Stuart for a few days but they were back in residence this afternoon

Fawning and gushing presenters on all the bbc radio stations and it seems they have a job for life. I like FIP radio and Smile, no adverts just a reminder every hour of the station.

I thought they were quite god too, but then I grew up going to RDF gigs. 'Borderline' is a good song to start with - I absolutely love their music.

The similarities are quite remarkable. (The SM were discussed on a previous PH thread - I think it was PurpleTurtle that first brought them to my attention.)
