Listened to the Ed Sheeran Chart Show on the way home, some decent music tbh. Good on him.

Kay Burley was prattling on about him yesterday. Apparently she thinks this album is the greatest music ever made and was visibly offended when the hired 'expert' said it was bland and a bit meh.

Only heard the clip played and he sounds about right.

Kay Burley is a cretinous fool who is out of her depth on a freshly mopped floor.
If she told me the sky was blue I'd still have to go outside and check.

The chart thing is just because each track sale from the album counts as a 'single' sale, because of the on-line compilation.

I just cannot stand the white guy with acoustic guitar genre. Songs that are basically written to try and get women into bed by showing how "deep" and "meaningful" you are

No, me either.

Nor can my brother which is really frustrating as he's a ginger who plays acoustic guitar. I wish he'd just embrace the concept and make us all rich! :-p

My daughter, who's 10, is really into him at the moment. I will say, the first two off this new album have grown on me to a certain extent, but I heard Galway Girl for the first time last night and just began laughing. WTF????!!!!

I don't usually mind him that much but wow that track "Galway Girl" is absolutely horrendous....

Yes, streaming music songs, from Spotify etc., is skewing the UK singles chart in favour of popular and new albums. Students and middleaged people are piling online all at once to get their new Ed fix.

It seems that now the chart format favours the bigger acts.

All they have to do is put out some bland song that isn't awful and ride the hype train to multiple weeks at number 1.

It's the reverse of when they first opened it up to online sales and newer acts started breaking up the more established ones.

I would have been the first reply to this thread but didn't want to offend any fans ,now I find

that there isn't many on here.

His songs are too wordy, just boring.

Ed Sheeran basically has the pop market cornered. Given that he's written big hits for several other acts and just keeps a few for himself (possibly not his best ones, but perhaps the one's he enjoys more), he's just a money making machine.

I think it's funny he took a "gap year" and supposedly took it in isolation from social media and the such, but still managed to bag Swifty's crew and a party with a princess.

Not bad for a was-fat ginger.

His music doesn't appeal to me whatsoever but musics so subjective and people must see something in his stuff, either that or young people just have exceptionally bad taste.

Sheeran's music is cr*p, but the British music industry is in collapse and it needs him (and Adele) real bad. Those two are possibly the last wave of truly global British pop stars.

How sad is that, from a country that gave the world The Beatles, Stones, The Who, Zeppelin and a myriad of smaller, but no less talented bands?

I despair, I really do, if the best we can come up with is that miserable dross. And don't get me started on Coldplay. Or Sam Smith, who should have been drowned at birth, rather than subject us to his whinging excuse of a voice.
