On a more up to date note, I accidentally recently discovered a French guy/group called "Kid Francescoli" and have been listening to a few of his albums, which I've found really good. Anyone else a fan?
The track I accidentally discovered as a recommended video in my Youtube feed, is called Moon. It's worth a listen all the way through as it takes a little while to get going and build in layers. It's off his "Play me Again" album which I really enjoyed.

My main interest in trance has forked off in two different directions. Totally forked off.
The deeper / hypontic JOOF style mentioned above, and the tribal, breaks, trancey / progressive housey style played by the orignal progressive DJs such as Sasha / Digweed / Quivver / Dave Seaman / Anthony Pappa and others.

There's a really fine line between generic / coffee-table deep house and the stuff that Pappa plays. It's like a single mutation makes a HUGE difference.

But the Joof stuff, Platipus Records, Lost Language, Paul Van Dyke, etc are the OG and represent the other, dare I say it, real thing.
It should be hypnotic and deep and 3am and tribal. Back in the day, with chemicals, it was a near religious experience.
And all of this is pure unadulterated navel gazing. And ignore me. I love all good music. Genres just divide people.

The genre lables have become really jumbled up. I think - without being xenophobic - the Amercians have joined the party late and not understood the full history (although of course, a lot electronica traces back to Detroit, Chicago, NYC etc). On beatport for example, I have heard tunes classified as 'Organic House', when really they're 90's nosebleed??
I agree that genres divide. Trance can now refer to music which is just toally different, not better or worse, just apples & oranges.
PH is almost the worst place to discuss music because usually here it's all about putting people down, belittling them, being definitively 'right' and taunting anybody who takes a different tack. Totally at odds with how music is best discussed and shared - it's very individual, can have deep personal meaning and is never definitively good or bad.
Love how this thread manages to swerve all of that. Finding people who are like minded musically, sharing music which other people which is totally new to them, but they immediately love is one of life's true pleasures.
And yes, trance at the peak - truly religious.
