These are not a band I've ever spent any time listening to, other than their two hits and I've never owned any of their albums. But I had the chance to see the Waterboys last year and they absolutely blew me away. Absolutely superb, top class musicianship and showmanship.
These are on my bucket list...love their stuff!

By far the best act i ever saw was back in the late 80's/early 90's, in a run down football club in a local town. Wasn't really bothered about going but it was incredible
The Hamsters - think they have long since split but they were epic and far better than anyone else i've ever seen live
The Hamsters retired basically … had been on the road forever.

Saw them multiple times and always loved their shows.

Never understood how he never really made it big.
I imagine it's been an image thing. Which is, obviously, wrong, but just how things seem to be, commercially.

Suede - went to see them in Birmingham with the wife with fairly low expectations - I was aware of their tunes from back in the day but they weren't really my thing. They turned out to be excellent - Brett is a pretty captivating frontman and they were pretty tight all the way through. More than a few of their tunes turned up on my "Best Songs Ever" playlist and we're off to see them again later in the year.
Are you seeing them in the double headlining bill with the Manic Street Preachers? I am, in July, at Cardiff Castle.
Good job you asked as it appears we're not seeing them again this year frown

We've got tickets to the Manics at Trentham Gardens in summer, and we'd assumed it was part of the same tour, further digging shows sadly that isn't the case.

Ah well, might keep an eye out and see if Suede do any warm up gigs near us.

Ah no, not good news.

Maybe keep an eye out on Twickets to see if any come up or even the Forever Delayed forum, they do appear sometimes.

I think the crowd often makes or breaks a gig.

Ville from HIM (VV) was standout. The crowd was really into it and the band was reacting to it by giving it even more. I wasn’t expecting anything more than the HIM gigs I’d been to before.

Daniel Norgren and his band absolutely blew the roof off a gig in London. He had the entire crowd in his hand, including me and I’m normally fairly inert.

Michael Gira (Swans) with an acoustic guitar plugged into a massive amp, playing in a church in Liverpool. Deafening and huge. Overwhelmed some of the audience.

Godspeed you black emperor a couple of years ago. Much more into it than first time I saw them.

Smoke Fairies don’t sound good recorded but were brilliant live.

Uriah Heep playing Rain had half the audience in tears.

Richard Hawley at Matlock pavilion. Changed my music taste.

When living in NZ years ago it was difficult to see any decent live music. I only ended up getting to a few gigs in the 18 months I was there. I was looking forward to Muse, but they were incredibly boring live. My girlfriend wanted to see Snow Patrol. I was trying to come up with excuses to get out of it but went anyway and they were far better than I expected.

Self Esteem was another one. Didn’t expect a lot, but she was really impressive live.

Also went to see Elvana on recommendation from a friend at Tramlines in Sheffield a couple of years ago. Expected them to be absolute st, but actually enjoyed it very much.

Saw Big Special at the Bullingdon in Oxford on Thursday - after Ride's album launch acoustic set in the Truck Store record shop - what an absolutely joyous and often bombastic experience, their recorded music doesn't do them justice.

I was trying to think how to describe them, a brummy version of The Streets with a bit of Beastie Boys or Rage Against the Machine maybe...

Ride's acoustic set was absolutely delightful too, a great evening all round!
