This thread dovetails strangely into the 'blast from the past' one - I was listening to My Bloody Valentine's 'Isn't Anything' album the other day.

Sort of on the edge of shoegazing stuff - try Loop's stuff from the late '80s / early '90s.

Wasn't aware of Loop at the time but a mate got tickets for them last year at the Garage in Highbury and they were great. smile

Somewhat niche this...A few years ago I came across Pinkshinyultrablast who were based in St Petersburg, where it appears there is/was a lively Shoegaze scene. They have released 3 really good albums. Saw them play in Newcastle in 2019 on a UK tour. Blankenberge also very good St Petersburg shoegaze band. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine neither band has released new music that I'm aware of.

Something perhaps a little less niche is Deserta - their 2021 album 'Every moment, everything you need' is one of my favourites.

Another 'shoegaze' fan here, especially Curve, Ride and Lush. I've been buying lots of vinyl recently and bought most of the Ride early singles. Lush's 'For Love' is a great single and still gets played today, as well as Doppelganger by Curve.... and the lead singer Toni was nice on the eyes too !!

The Mrs and I saw them a few times when they first appeared, supporting Sonic Boom (Pete Kember of Spacemen 3) and Spiritualized (with Jason Pierce also of Spacemen 3). I'm sure we saw them supporting Thee Hypnotics at Warwick Uni too at some point. Thee Hypnotics were very Iggy / Stooges / MC5 oriented and very good.

Met Mark G down the pub a few months back, top fella, he gave me a credit on the album sleeve for what must be services to drinking and fixing motorbikes...

Always think of it as an intertwined offshoot of mainstream indie. I met Adam Franklin of Swervedriver once & just to mention it in passing, he was the nicest chap you could hope to bump into..

Black Doldrums when they were just a two piece band, they now have a bass player. smile

I read the other day that the term Shoegaze was invented by Steve Harley of Cockney Rebel in the 70s. It was his nickname for their introvert guitarist Nick Jones.

It's easy to miss even quite popular bands.

I'd never heard of Echobelly, despite them seemingly having quite a few hits in the 'Britpop 90s'.

I only came across them when they (well some of them) reformed and did a gig near to where I live.

I really like them (original and newer stuff) and have seem them live a couple of times now.

I like nearly every different type of music but always fall back on my favourite genre Shoegaze. As another poster earlier suggested its a genre that unfortunately fell in between others that caught the general publics interest in a greater way.....as its peak in the early nineties it came straight after rave and the madchester scene but before grunge and then britpop took off.

I don't mind that its relatively unknown though.....i guess its more for a discerning palate.....heavy, swirly guitars, ethereal vocals down in the mix and funk drumming...perfect,

As the OP have just discovered Slowdive (who are enjoying a resurgence at the moment with tours and new songs) and likes them I would (as has already suggested) start with the biggest shoegaze bands with a similar sound....ie. RIDE and Lush first before looking further.

If you like them then the world is your oyster as lots of young shoegaze bands around now and touring such as bdrmm (pronounced bedroom) just hook yourself into a shoegaze playlist on spotify and away you go.
