one of my favourite bands - Mark King is a maestro. They have a new album out, called 'Retroglide' - a lot like a MK solo album, but at least Mike Lindup is back on board.

As a bit of trivia...is Helen Chamberlain (Soccer AM) going out with MK's brother?
Mark King is a fair old bass player.Saw them at the NEC years ago good concert but the sound there is/was a bit naff..

I saw them in Oxford last December - the gig was filmed and is available as the Retroglide tour DVD.

Bump. I also like Level 42.

I was repeatedly exposed to the best of album 'Level Best' as a child in the car (and being expats in NL meant plenty of long car journeys).

Going to see them this year, never have previously.

I've been to see them live twice, they were excellent. Mark King and Gary Husband are a top duo. Allan Holdsworth was also a member of the band, for a brief time!

Twice here too, Wembley and, er, Wembley I think! Great band, underrated IMO.

I discovered Mark King actually uses public transport when in London. He's bought a flat there and I happened to get on the same carriage as him on the Jubilee Line one morning November last year. We had a very pleasant chat despite me being too shocked to hold a coherent conversation. Mark graciously did most of the talking...!

Saw them last year and they were vey good. Excellent musicians, great songs and they really put on a show with it as well. You'll have a great time.

Pete Ray biggin now on drums, he's a monster!
There's a video on YT of him meeting the band when he was 12, tried out the kit etc.
Who'd have thought he'd now be playing with them,

re-visited them recently after being a bit of a fan in the 80's and to be honest I thought the music was too slow. I don't think they got worse but my taste has definitely changed.

I had a friend who was really into them early in their career and I didn't like them, but I warmed to them, partly because my wife liked them, later on and there's no doubt that musically they were a skilled bunch (maybe still are).

I can't say I've listened to them much recently, but we saw them live once (in their prime) and they were pretty good live too.

As someone said, perhaps a little too normal - They're good musicians, but perhaps not very exciting.

Nathan King isn't too shabby on the bass either.

He is doing the Andertons videos on Youtube, comes across as a fantastically decent bloke.

Nick Beggs may be my favourite 80s pop Bassist.

Been a fan since seeing them at Wembley in the 80's must have seen them a dozen times or more now. Last saw them at Car-Fest South last year, but probably the best gig was being front row at Hammersmith and also next to the stage at Guildford last year (or maybe the year before).
Hoping to catch them again this year.

Another closet 42 fan here!

Soundtrack of my my youth - Level 42 & Simple Minds (saw them during the City of Light tour which was awesome!) went from, what seems like, playing massive stadium gigs to obscurity overnight!

Seen 'em twice in the last 6-7 Years. London O2 was good, but Margate Winter Gardens was a bit more intimate and the sound was right for the gig.
He (Mark) seemed to revel in playing some oldy stuff,Level 42 Album always best for me so '43' and 'almost there' were getting a bit frenetic. 'Eyes waterfalling' .... brilliant.
Go for it if you get the chance.
Bass players,no real mention of Stanley Clarke so far.

You get 1. Stanley Clarke bass 2. The Late George Duke keyboards 3. Feelgood harmony on stage 4. Whistle Test nostalgia
