You're probably right, I'm finding as I get older I like heavy distortion less and less, and prefer to hear the guitar sounding as the designer intended.

I was very happy when Andertons started making videos with Pete and Mick. I always liked Lee's playing and tried to tune out Chappers widdling. Maybe its an age thing!
Personally can't stand it. I understand its sales videos under the guise of reviews, but my word the constant solos are bloody boring. Someone like Andy from PGS has a great back catalog of riffs that suit the equipment he's playing and sell the products to me more. Real solid but not flash player. I also think Danish Pete and Greg Koch are two of the best on Youtube for products right now!

What if the designer intended it to be used with heavy distortion?

Agreed on Chappers being rubbish to listen to, he is watchable and seems a decent guy but his blues-rock-shred widdling is dull. If you're going to shred pentatonics non-stop you better be Paul Gilbert.

I also hate the way he insists on tuning the bottom string right down which I think sounds absolutely horrible. If you want to play that low, dump the guitar and buy a bass I say.

In addition to this, I have found the edges of the top to be very rough, almost unsanded. Keep meaning to drop them a line....

In other news, new guitar day!

(Purchased in April for today.... it's been a struggle. What a thing....)

What about all the guitars designed just for high gain music? There are now, arguably moreso than ever before, loads of new guitars made with an apparent goal of exclusively high gain playing in mind. There are plenty of pickup manufacturers now making high output humbuckers that sound utterly lifeless and sterile on a clean signal, but like a building falling over once the distortion builds.

No doubt a trend spurred on by Djent, these guitars will be played exclusively with the gain piled on and riffing on the first couple of frets on the bottom string.

Correct. But as far as I'm concerned, these guitars do not exist!

I've got a 2016 "Traditional T" Les Paul and am very happy with it. Here she is (since this is a "look at our guitars" thread):

M

Its got '57 pickups. What's the difference between 57, 58 and 59? Anyone know? Google was surprisingly unhelpful.

Cheers

There is one thing though. The lower strings sound very dull to my ears. At first I thought it was this horrible cold I've been fighting with, but it's definitely strange. Any thoughts? Change the strings (no idea how long they have been on there). Have a chat with the local guitar shop?

(And why are my pictures coming out sideways?)

If you bought it in April I'd definitely restring it before anything else.

Can you feel the strings to be a particularly light gauge?

Yes they are light - lighter than I would normally use.

Could be old dead strings, but light strings shouldn't cause a dull sound, they might cause a thinner, less "springy" sound, the fatter you go the more you get that rubber band sound.

My money would be on the previous owner fiddling with the pickup height. It may need lowering or raising on the bass string side, impossible for me to say without playing the guitar first though.

Made a bit of a spur of the moment purchase today, just messing about with it now, fingerboard feels nicer than my Squier infinity.

Does anyone know what this colours called?.
