'scuse the ashtray. Just got this Japanese '62 reissue Strat with a fotoflame finish as a drunken eBay purchase. I'm a Gibson guy, but this is so nice to play, the neck is just sublime. Quite fancy changing the pickups out for something a little hotter though if anyone has any suggestions?

Hi All, long time lurker here...time to contribute!
Some beautiful guitars on here and great knowledge and advice in the forums.

A low res shot of the corner of my dining room (more guitars than dining chairs!)

We have:
Black Korean Squier strat from 1988
  • Was my first guitar and still with me - great action, tone and will never be parted with. Build quality massively outperforms the cost.
Classical guitar
  • Bought from a pawn shop for £40 - goes camping and is abused, has an "aruldite" repair to a crack on the back but just is good fun
Ibanez AS153 semi-acoustic
  • My newest addition; lovely tone; good playability and very versatile tones (and looks IMO - sweet!)
Epi Les Paul Standard (Korean - Samick factory)
  • eBay find from a collector who had way too many guitars (is that possible?). This is my goto guitar that just feels right.
Takamine semi (model ???)
  • Bought new about 20 years ago I have no idea what model it is and may well be asking for help on this later. Nice tone and action though.
Red squire strat
  • Son's first electric guitar to learn on. I should have known he'd want to play on the others more... enough said!
Will get some better shots up individually (especially the Ibanez)

Cheers, Griff

Try Iron Gear pickups. Both the lead guitarists in my band are using them on Strats, Teles and LPs, and for the money they're amazing.

Aww man, that is sweet. Right on the cusp too. However, if you put it down on a gravel surface ever again, I will hunt you & I will find you.

I know it's on the strap buttonwink

I have a new addition to the family. Just picked up a Mahogany Taylor GS Mini. I have to say the quality and playability is excellent considering it's size. It will be going for a setup this weekend but I have not been able to put it down.

Yep. Apols, I tried typing short scale about 20 times on my iPad, then gave up as it kept autocorrecting it.

But yes, I have a Jag-Stang, pictured one a previous page.

What other models are short scale? I have a Squire Strat and Tele, plus an Epiphone Les Paul andI find the later easier to play partly due to the scale as I have small hands. I'm thinking of treating myself to another guitar and at the moment a Gibson SG with P90s is favourite due to the scale (and being at least a bit different to my other guitars). However, I'm quite partial to a 'proper' Fender too.

In other news; I just picked up a TS808 reissue Tube Screamer: I wanted one 30 years ago and cheapened out with a basic fuzz pedal instead and always regretted not spending a bit more. 30 years later I had to spend a lot more, though I've got a cracking deal on Amazon for £135 delivered; I'm just anxious that the right model turns up and in working order...

You know an original TS808 would now be worth north of £400 don't you...?

Main two are the Mustang and Jaguar. Also slightly rarer models such as the Duo-Sonic and Bronco etc.

Thanks I'll have a look into them.

Yes and TBH I couldn't justify spending that much on a pedal, especially as I could (should) have bought one new for about £35 instead of the cheap £10 no name fuzz box I did buy. The reissue will be good enough for me I'm sure (if not I'll either mod it or sell it on). I do have an original PT909 Ibanez Phaser, which looks the same as the TS but is blue (and of course sounds totally different wink ). I was surprised to see how much some like it have sold for on eBay...it's not the sort of pedal that you can use on many songs either without getting tedious: At least it'll look good on the board next to the TS. smile

What sort of stuff do you play?

I've got a mixed set of Lace Sensors in my strat... they handle crunchy high-gain tones really well and still keep that normal "stratty" sound quite well too.

It's kind of something I would like on the board, but could never justify. For gigging, I use a TS909 & it's great, really everything I could want from an o/d pedal.

There is also the Fender Musicmaster which was the original shortscale Fender guitar. It had a tiny 22.5inch scale. Here is a picture of my 1959 Musicmaster.

I have small hands and for anything up to the 12th fret it is perfect. Only Jeremy Beadle could play any higher than that though! laugh

I love that...it would be great to own a guitar that's actually older than me too. Being realistic I wonder if there are any new(ish) alternatives as I suspect I'd baulk at the cost of a vintage one?

The above example only cost me £600 which is about the same price as a Japanese or Mexican Fender. The only modern Fender shortscales being produced are Mustangs and Jaguars. I'd avoid the Chinese stuff but the Japanese stuff is pretty good as long as you upgrade the pickups.

Thanks Galsia; that's useful to know. I'm not averse to replacing pick ups as I've done that on my cheap Squier Affinity Telecaster (it is Chinese, but about 12 years old). However, if I could pick something up like yours in that sort of price range then that would be good; I'd been looking at spending around twice that anyway on a Gibson SG (for the shorter scale) and I think yours is much more individual.
