This turned up about 5 minutes before I got home this afternoon, but my OH was home to sign for it. smile Lucky I had an early finish and only a bit of admin to do (better get that done soon I think boxedin). Then the OH had to go out for a while, so I got the house to myself for a while to try it out. I'm relieved to say that the neck suits my hands and the set up seems very good (I'll swap the strings for my regular type though). Only the medium jumbo frets feel a bit bigger than I'm used to as my Strat and Tele have thin 'vintage'frets, but it's just a matter of getting used to it.

That P90 sound was the main reason for getting it and they do sound great, clean or dirty. Quite different to the humbuckers in my Epiphone Les Paul (upgraded Dimarzio in the bridge) yet not as thin/wiry as my Strat and Tele, so it fits in nicely with the other 3 guitars.

Gorgeous! And a bloody good deal. See they were doing Bernie Marsden PRS's today?

I saw the Bernie Marsden deal and thought they'd knocked another £50 off mine for a second (wouldn't be surprised if that had happened). I've taken the 'poker chip' off and I think it looks better without, might change the knobs too, perhaps just black 'speed' ones, though the current ones seem to be on quite firmly, so I don't want to damage anything getting them off.

Very elegant and clean but still looks purposeful. Love p90's!

Agreed in the knobs, my Les Paul Prophecy has little all-black knurled knobs and they're perfect for an all black guitar (it has EMG's).

P 90's really are the sound of a lot of the early blues stuff--love 'em.

P90s are awesome, they seem to have the clarity and treble of a singlecoil with the punch of a humbucker.

Lovely guitar!

Thanks for all the kind comments. I haven't been able to play it this weekend as I've been away with some old friends for a bit of a get together. I was going to restring it this afternoon and tweak the set up, but a bit too tired out after the heavy weekend. I can at least now genuinely say that I 'pulled the trigger' wink, since we went clay pigeon shooting (before the drinking).

Given that a number of the guitars posted here came from World Guitars, have you heard the sad news that apparently Jeff has passed away?

Yep, bought mine from there last year.

Had a great email exchange with him, and visited WG a few times before I finally got the guitar I wanted.

Nothing was too much trouble; some of my emails were answered late at night.

He was good fun too.

I know people say he was a marmite figure, but the music shop world is a sadder place for his passing.

I hope World Guitars carries on.

I know you just had the paint job done, but wouldn't it be better to get the signature on the actual body of the guitar rather than the removable cover?

Only if I had a way of putting a clear coat over it... I asked him to sign there, so I'm happy. smile

I bought the SG 50s tribute, P90s have some serious bks to them! I love how raw and simple the guitar is. The finish has picked up some dings and I think the finish is wearing where your forearm would rest - undoubtedly added hundreds to the value for the authentic relic finish.....

I'm really liking the P90 sounds, but I'm struggling a bit with the (medium jumbo) frets...I played it tonight at college (it's a 'rock school' for, ehem, more mature players) and I was all fingers and thumbs. Came back home, picked up my Strat and played the same riffs perfectly. It was hard enough to find a P90 guitar I liked (and could afford/justify) without adding in that it should have 'vintage' frets like my Strat and Tele (and my Epiphone LP for that mattter). They just feel like big speed bumps as I slide up and down the neck. frown

Seems a bit daft thinking about getting the frets changed though; I'll have to stick with it a bit longer.

True. I guess it would rub off the body quite quickly without a top coat. Lovely guitars - Enjoy!

I was at a 'do' years back when Jimmy Page signed a framed print for some Bonus-Head City-Boy. It rubbed off the glass later in the evening (after JP had left) and he was left with nada. I might have laughed, a bit....hehe

Looks like you had a top night, the guitars look great too. Joe always puts on a good show, I've seen him live a few times now, most memorably with Stuart Hamm on the bass.

I just need to figure out how to make my wife realise that with our first born on the way, a great way to ensure his future would be to invest in assets with assured interest over the next 18 years.

Theoretically.... if I had a big birthday coming up, and I wanted a Gibson Flying-V from the year of my birth, where would be good places to look for this please?

(I've seen the Explorers out there, but a V is much more 'me'....)

Thank you!
