I saw one of those flowchart memes last week that got me thinking. It was about justifying new guitars.

If you can't answer all of these in the affirmative then you need more:

Got a strat?
Got a tele?
Got a Les Paul?
Got singles?
Got humbuckers?
Got p90's?
Got EMG's?
Got a semi?
Got a hollow?
Got a 12 string?

Anything missing?!

Maybe it's a hidden compartment to keep Viagra in for the more mature guitarist?

I'm down to the P90 part of that list and I've pretty much done it in order, though it's taken over 30 years, so I'm not sure I'll reach the end...

Replaces the top pickup on a Superstrat style guitar with a widget that allows epic sustain. Fernandez make them, and Phil Collen has them in his sig Jackson.

It's a Zero Fret. The nut provides later a position but not string height. Vigier Guitars use them too amongst others.
Burns have been doing it for yonks. Look at some old pics of the Shadows (and Hank Marvin's current Burns sig model) and you'll see a zero fret.

I've got an Eko acoustic from the early 70s that has a zero fret too -

Indeed! I came awfully close to buying a Hendrix strat today but was put off by trying a 2016 trad LP (in honey burst - ooh).

Got some vouchers from my better half for Christmas and it's my birthday in January so I might be able to justify a £1700 splurge...

It's the first "real" LP I've played - I've got an Epiphone Prophecy which is great (but very "focussed"), nothing like a normal les Paul.
