Lovely! I think the 2016 Vis awesome value.

Ive never used the robot tuners, how you do you tell it you want non-standard tuning? Drop-D for example? I play loads of Soundgarden stuff using an Epiphone Prophecy with EMG's, it's great but most of their songs are in weird tunings - My Wave for example : EEBBBB (!)

I'm not really sure, I know they will store alternative tunings so it is supposedly easy to switch between them. Not tried them myself. I don't think it is something that I would want, neither is it something that would stop me buying a guitar I wanted.

The V and the explorer Trads are great value.

Having just sold a Warwick Thumb bass I've a few £s spare... pondering the options (wife already resigned to another bass turning up).

Current thinking:
  • P-Bass
  • Tbird
  • Rickenbacker 4003/4 - torn between a 4003 (Jetglo) and 4004 Chyenne II (no chance of getting one of the very rare 'Lemmy' basses - I've looked).
  • Save £s and put towards an order for a brand new Dingwall 4-string Z3 to go with the 5-string I have...
Thoughts?

I have a robot tunere'd Gibson, the system has 12 pre programed tunnings and the option for another 6 of your own. It works fairly well but the controls are a tad fiddly.

I have played around a bit but flitting from one tuning to another does unsettle things (like it would a normal guitar).

The one down side of the system is re stringing is more of a faff than normal and if you change the guage of the string you need to re calibrate the tuners. Which isnt in the manual but can be found on a Gibson PDF online!

It's a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails. Trouble is it overpowers the other two pups so that will have to be changed.
You could try and balance it out with something else in the neck. The DiMarzrio Cruiser is a stacked single coil that balances well with humbuckers in the bridge while still having that snappy sound. The Air Norton S works nicely too, though is definitely a humbucker in sound it's got a clearer high end than anything else I've tried.

Thanks for that thumbup

Sounds like a bit of a faff for not much advantage really.

It's a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails. Trouble is it overpowers the other two pups so that will have to be changed. Also the setup is awful, it buzzes all over the place. Action too low and not enough neck relief. I may also have to level and reprofile the frets, but once that's all done, it will be awesome.

The Les Paul on the other hand, is perfect straight out of the box.
If it helps I have a Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck Junior in the bridge of my Strat, doesn't overpower the other stock pickups and sounds really good. Had it in for about 6 years now and couldn't be happier.
Funny you should say that, I actually have a JB Junior to put in there.

Having packed up my boogie woogie band 20 years ago I've managed to buy myself this rather nice 1992 Custom Shop 51 Precision Bass. It has a lovely thud from the flat-wounds for those of us who can't handle an upright, I'm playing it through an all valve Ashdown CTM 30 and a 12 inch Aguillar cabinet. Going to dig up my old band members if they are still alive and boogie on down.

I needed a spare guitar and had sold a load of gear so fulfilling a need I bought a 2016 flying V Traditional. Normal neck, tuners etc. It is a complete weapon, I love it. I would have liked to have tried the HP as it is only £200 more and that's almost worth it for the hard case. I can take or leave the robot tuners.

Alfie decided that he wanted a guitar for Christmas and paid for most of it! It is a 2016 les paul 50's tribute. After playing a load of other Les Pauls at around the same cash (£750) this was a clear winner. It is a really good guitar, no bells or whistles but it is a really lovely thing to play and sounds brilliant.

A fellow Victory owner too it turns out! wavey

If I make to my next 'milestone' birthday then a 335 will be my present to myself. I can't decide between red or black though...I've got 10 years to decide though. smile

I happened to be working down near Poole today, so I just had to call into Absolute Music (I've bought a few bits and pieces from their online shop). Had a drool over all the lovely gear in there and had a quick try of a Fender Telecaster Cabronita (well 10 years is a long time to wait wink), but I managed to resist. I might have to mod my 'spare' Affinity Tele with humbuckers though after playing this one today, though I was supposed to be selling it after I bought a 'proper' Fender Telecaster last year...
