I'll do one soon and post it up. Bear in mind that you may need earplugs.

Next project is an amp to go with it.

That is a work of absolute mental genius. Looks like there are some Meccano axle collars in the finished item? Can completely understand the Doc. Brown nickname!

Well spotted. I don't have the tools or skills to make and tap my own collars/grubscrews. I did think I was going a bit mad during the build. silly

Please make a video - that is utterly stunning!

An amp prototyped in Meccano and fashioned in brass is going to be a thing to behold hehe

Anyone else ever caught their fingernail on the high E string ?

Was playing my acoustic "enthusiastically" last night and the string has cut deeply into the corner of my nail in a large way......

Ouch!

Let me extrapolate a little more absurdly.

http://www.aqpl43.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/COMMS/auxet...

Now, that one had an air compressor powered by an electric motor, but you could do the same job with a miniature steam engine.

I've already thought of having a steam engine driven by compressed air and have designed a mechanism to fit in the guitar. I have the motor-driven mini-compressor but can't afford the steam engine at the moment. If I had a modelling lathe I would make one.

The amp will be based on a copper water boiler.

I daresay the steam engine would be the least of your worries. Good luck! biggrin

Ermmm.... Well this is embarrassing! My for my birthday, my sister has brought me a signed guitar from.... Joe Satriani. Fully authenticated etc.

Just a generic strat type, not an Ibanez. Before I put it on eBay, does anyone want a trade or a deal? She's said I can get rid of it towards something else...

Potentially interested. Can you PM me some details? Got an Ibanez to trade if you're more into that kind of thing.

I've ordered a Breedlove Discovery Concert acoustic this evening. I've been considering that and the Discovery Dreadnought. The Concert seems to suit my needs a little better. I do love the size and punch of a Dreadnought but I'll mainly be using this guitar in my front room so the smaller body will be better for playing on the sofa. My mate who really knows his way round a mixing desk was saying that Concerts are easier to record than Dreadnoughts because they have less bass to filter out. Well, we shall see how I get on.

In other news, I've added my Boss DD-3 delay pedal back to my rig. I now go Strat - DD - Fender Supersonic 22. It has done wonders for my tone. It's sat in my spare room unused for years.

A bit of idle eBay browsing and an impulse purchase has resulted in this turning up today smile

It's Squier Telecaster Custom 2 with P90 pickups. First impressions are that it's better than I expected. Sounds great, although it needs a clean - it's filthy! - new strings and a general set up.

It's actually for my daughter, who is learning at the moment, but it goes nicely with this, my other recent purchase of an SG 50's tribute

And this, my early 90's Japanese made Strat, which I've had for about 20 years now

Always the best answer to "why?"!!!

Epically steam-punk bit of engineering, love it.

I had one those, in that colour to !

It makes a great dirty/breaking up sound, but I wasnt very happy with the cleans.

Plus, using my fists of ham, I used to regularly break strings.

Since Ive had my LP, Ive only changed two strings in a couple of years.

Aside from technique, more an issue of the nut and bridge condition I would've thought?

Thanks, I appreciate it, glad you like it. I'm about to start on an amp to go with it.

I think it's a bit pathetic that some people stick a few gears and 'antique' paint on something and call it steam punk. I decided that everything on the guitar would be functional as well as decorative (although I did go overkill on the gears to make it as complex as possible).
