Not a new guitar day (though nearly was as I tried out a lovely 2016 Les Paul 'Standard Traditional' a during my lunch break since I was near Andertons and wanted to try out the new Fender Bassbreaker head).

I bought my Marshall JMP1-H last November as Guitar Guitar got another batch in. I've had to use it into an old broken Line 6 combo as a temporary 'cab', though I bought a Celestion 'Heritage' Greenback G12M about a month ago, so I fitted that to my temp 'cab' to test it out.

I ordered this mini replica 2061CX cab which is downsized (a bit like Spinal Tap's 'Stonehenge' monument wink) so that it's in proportion to my JMP-1H. It has a closed back which seems to make the Greenback sound a lot richer in the bass, which I like. He thoughtfully made the back in three sections, so I could remove a panel if I want to and make it open back.

With my trusy 34 year old JV Squier Strat to give some proportion:

New guitar bought on Friday, Sterling AX3 bought for £279. A lot of guitar for the money!

I like that; very smart looking thing!

In other news, I re-strung yesterday with a set of DR's. The nearest music shop is a little independent in Newport (Salop), and my usual 9-gauge Elixirs weren't in. I baulked a bit at the price, but it was either DR or Ernie Ball and I've never got on with EB strings.

Impressed so far, with a nice, kind of grippy "feel" and a lovely crisp tone.

It's Squier Telecaster Custom 2 with P90 pickups. First impressions are that it's better than I expected. Sounds great, although it needs a clean - it's filthy! - new strings and a general set up.
I had one those, in that colour to !

It makes a great dirty/breaking up sound, but I wasnt very happy with the cleans.

Plus, using my fists of ham, I used to regularly break strings.

Since Ive had my LP, Ive only changed two strings in a couple of years.
Are you really using two year old strings? I change mine monthly on the guitars I'm gigging and every couple of months on the others. Any longer and they break, and that includes my Les Pauls strung with 11s.

I bought that Breedlove Discovery Concert I was looking at the other day. It's absolutely fantastic. Now I just want to move to the Exotic Series...

Very nice, I love the understated detailing, never been a great fan of overly flashy rosettes.

I have a little thing for Gibsons at the moment. Here is my latest acquisition - a 2015 Sprint Run Les Paul Studio in Wine Red. Lovely peice of kit, and at a great price too.

But why, your guitar must sound and feel awful? If you put new strings on, you'd realise what you've been missing all this time.

Whereas the strings on my bass are at least 5 years old and sounding better and better!

I find if I completely clean the strings ever time I pay the guitar, even if only for a minute, they last a ridiculous length of time.

And I can't remember the last time I broke one.

(Actually I can, but it was on a guitar I'd just bought, so I wasn't responsible for the condition of the strings.)

Despite promising to concentrate on individual pedals, and forgo the complexity of multi-effects, I seem to have acquired a Line 6 Helix.

Limited playtime so far, but it seems a little more user-friendly than others I've bought in he past. The amp sims seem very accurate, and the effects are on a par with Fractal, IMO.

Some excellent reviews out there, which certainly helped make up my mind. Just managed to nab the last one at Guitar Guitar; I think they're all sold out until the next shipment in June.
